Ruggles is wondering where her forever family might be.
She is a wonderfully sweet and Grand Lady. She is highly investigative – her nickname is Sherlock. She loves to take her time outside sniffing and smelling the wonderful fragrances that are around.
Her heart murmur is stable – all check-ups at the Cardiologist have been great. Her heart doesn’t interfere in any of her activities – and though her muzzle has some grey her activity level is the same as everyone else – no slow down for her. She is as active as any 3 year old – especially if there is food around.
She is in the Cardiology Study at Iowa State in Ames doing what she can to improve the health of ALL Cavaliers. Where else could you get a Board Certified Cardiologist to examine your dog free of charge every 6 months? They are very accommodating with the appointment and it takes less than an hour. She was the hit of the Clinic the last time in Ames and was passed to each of the Students. Wow, did she think she was something special then. Well, she’s right - she’s the best. There is the liquid medicine that needs to be administered once a day, but it’s free and so easy – it just rolls down her tongue to her throat!!

Speaking of tongues, yes, it is out all the time. Did you know that’s what teeth are for? To keep your tongue in your mouth? But guess what - no dental costs – how can you top that? She eats kibble softened for just a few minutes in water. Of course she likes ALL kinds of food except corn, she is a Cavalier after all.
She is crate trained, though would rather spend her time on the couch thank-you very much, and would really just like to be on a lap if one is available. She loves other dogs and tolerates them laying on her and snuggling. There isn’t a mean bone in her body. She does woof at cats, and is very interested in them, but it is all good natured with the tail wagging the whole time.
Ruggles knows her way around a doggy door. And hasn’t had an accident in the house for months and months. She would do well with a fenced yard, but would also do well without, as long as she was on a long leash to do a bit of investigative reporting. She has selective hearing when it comes to leaving a really good scent and coming to you. She would love a positive based training class – treats are involved as you know – and she is very smart – she catches onto expectations very quickly.
So please, is there room at your house for her? If so, please fill out the application and then email Kathi at ebkathi2@ccr.net
Ruggles is being fostered in Central Iowa, near Des Moines.
