Lily and Olllie were the beloved pets of an owner who recently had to increase her work hours and wanted the dogs to have family that would be home a good part of the day. Both dogs are heart-healthy and healthy in other respects, as well.

They sleep together in a crate with a special stuffed toy, but when the sun comes up, they are ready to run and play endlessly. They are friendly and curious about everything and will bark or growl if they don’t understand what they see. They are affectionate and energetic. The expression “lap dog” does not do justice to these little pooches. They both adore being draped over their special person. They both love seeing animal shows on television, and they get excited and talk to the TV as well as try to jump up to see the screen (see their video). Once play time is done, they're little nappers and love to cuddle up.

Ollie is very outgoing and although he has had some obedience training, he may need a few remedial lessons. He gets so excited about things that he has a hard time concentrating on typical commands UNLESS you have a little treat for him. He loves running, taking walks, riding in vehicles, and sitting on a lap. Ollie’s previous owner indicated that his favorite activity is swimming, and he does look longingly at the bathtub sometimes because he loves the water so much. In foster care, Ollie has been seen racing after leaves in the yard, oblivious to the rest of the world. He loves to be picked up for a “dance” with his human. He plays with Lily and pins her down and growls loudly (tail wagging) for show. The play will stop abruptly, and then she will run away and race back for more. Sometimes she will grab his tail and haul him around, which is a feat because she is so small.
Ollie is a healthy boy with beautiful fine long fur that needs to be brushed on a regular basis. His eyes need daily wiping, due to tear ducts that cannot drain properly through his nose. The vet said that if he had surgery to try to fix this anatomical anomaly, there is only a 50/50 chance that it would work to clear up a problem that needs just a little daily attention.
Lily is very petite and loves to fetch and play with dog toys. She initiates play with Ollie and with her humans. She adores being draped right next to or on her “person”. She is quite the explorer and can be mischievous at times. She has been known to jump from a chair to the dining room table as well as to pull toilet paper off a roll and eat it (though she has not done that in her foster home). She loves to snuggle with people or with Ollie. She is not a swimmer, like Ollie, but she will put up with a bath. She is playful and affectionate.
Lily has had allergic symptoms that (the vet thinks) are possibly caused by food allergies. Her adoptive family will need to work with Lily to see what foods work best for her.
Both Ollie and Lily like Nyla bones and are powerful chewers, but they do not seem to bother furniture, shoes or clothing. They could both use some obedience training, and they will need to be watched when they first come into their new home for signs that they need to go out. These dogs are sweet and loving and would do well in a home where someone is home a good part of the day. They will be adopted as a pair, and it would be great if there were, at a minimum, two laps for them to be in. Responsible children would be fine. A fenced-in yard would be ideal, and they might be okay with other dogs. We would not place them in a home with cats though.
If you think Lily and Ollie might be the pair of dogs for you and you live within 3 hours of Waterville, Maine, please fill out an application and send it to Cavalier Rescue Coordinator Tonya at
