Hinkley and Brinkley in Seattle, WA

The Hinkley & Brinkley Story

The world accordingly to Brinkley:

So many changes in such a short period of time, my head is still spinning.  Hickley and I are about seven years old. I don’t know for sure because our first family did not give any information to the young couple that adopted us three years ago. At that time, we were still acting like young pups and teenagers and we didn’t pay attention to such details. Before we knew it, time passed and now we are adults.

Hickley and I are almost identical Blenheim male Cavaliers brothers. Our foster mom came up with a tricky way to ID us.  Our collars: Brinkley blue and Hinkley red.  Darn her, now we can’t play our silly tricks about who’s who.

To the best of my recollection the story goes like this:

Our original parents adopted us as pups and had us till we were about four. At this time, their busy lives did not allow them to spend quality time with us and this young couple adopted us. This couple had us for the last three years. But now that Hinkley and I are approaching middle age, we are requiring more personal care then they can afford to provide. They sat us down and explained that we are going another home where they will take good care of us and help find us new FOREVER homes. This was a kick in the gut and it took some time to digest this information. Hinkley and I talked about this at great length. After hours and days of talking, we concluded that we didn’t have much control over the situation and to go with the flow. Our promise to each other was to stick together and make it work.

Our new foster parents have been great. They have two other Cavaliers and we have become friends. We get to do new things that we never did before. All of us take long walks on the beach, go camping, and walks to the kiddy park and say hi to all the little kids that want to pet us.  And……..dogs…… there are so many dogs around and our social circle has expanded tenfold.  WOW……..

Now for the particulars on each of us:

Once we arrived at our foster parents they took us to the vet for checkups and here are the results...

Hinkley:

Like most Cavaliers, Hinkley has a heart murmur; it is a grade four out of six. He coughs sometimes and is on lasix (an inexpensive medication) but he's doing well on it. He is neutered and chipped with a new summer haircut. Our foster mom is trying to determine if Hinkley has some hearing loss or just a case of selective hearing. The jury is still out.

Brinkley (me):

I also have a heart murmur which is a grade three. No issues to date. I do have a cataract in one eye but it doesn’t stop my activities. I have a skin condition that has been somewhat bothersome. However, my foster mom changed our diet to a meat diet, no wheat. This seems to be working very well.  So, I guess I am allergic to wheat. I am also neutered and chipped with a new summer haircut.

Both of us had issues with our dental care. After seven years, you would too. We have had our teeth cleaned and some extractions. We are all fixed up and ready to go...Now, with the kissable seal of approval.  We are both house trained and we don’t bark much….only when we play with the dog next door through the wood fence. We both just love playing lap dogs on the couch. And bedtime, sleeping in the big bed  with them all is the best. Hinkley and I would like to stay together, but we understand that there might be a chance that we will be separated. We hope a loving home will want us both though.

OH, one more thing before I finish. Cats and kids…When we first moved into our foster home a cat was part of the family dynamics. What is a cat?  At first we chased Casandra around the house every time she would pass. But, we quickly learned that Cats have staff and Dogs have owners. We have learned well, that she runs the house. As for kids, we love them because they drop food. So, we just follow them around hoping and praying that food will come our way. When is their granddaughter coming again?

Please consider us to become part of your FOREVER family. I guarantee that you will never regret your decision.

We still have many years of love to give and share.

Well, that is our story and I am sticking to it.

My husband and I are interested in adopting both of them. We live in Livermore, CA, but would be willing to work out coming to get them or meeting someone part way. We have a 10-year-old Blenheim rescue who would love some company. I work at home 4 days a week, so they would have someone around at all times. Judy Winkel has our application on file. My mother lives in Woodburn, OR, and we have plans to be there the end of September, first of October and could pick them up then. That would give Judy enough time to have us checked out and process the paper work. What do you think? Looking forward to heairng from you.

    Patti,
Hinkley & Brinkley both weigh about 19 pounds.
They have been with me since they were turned over to the rescue.

If you know of anyone who would make great FOREVER parents to H & B, please pass on this website to them.

    Thanks,
    Barb

Oh how I miss my Blenhein babies... Jake and Reba... they both had heart issues. But it's easy to care for to the very end. They just sleep - both passed within 8 months of each other. 121/2 and 13+. I have 2 ET's now but I look regularly for a rescue Cav as I miss their unbelievable personality.
H&B look to be great pups ~ hopefully, they can stay together when placed. Where are they living right now? How much do they weigh?
How they find a loving home soon.....

To Heather: Yes they are still available - ready and waiting for the right FOREVER parent/parents. To Angel: Where do you live? To Kelly: Hickley & Brinkley would make wonderful companions however, my main concern is that she my get to a point where see can not care for them properly due to her age. Most of my rescues have been from elderly people who can not care for their dogs any longer due to their own health issues. To all of you....please call and I will answer all your questions that you may have.

Hello. Would adoption be considered for a home where the owner is an elderly woman who has been blind since childhood?

Angel, if you are interested in the pair, please fill out the online form and then call foster mom Barbara at (206) 935-4113 or email her at barb@parkerseattle.com. For reasons of safety and privacy, but also to avoid having foster families inundated with visitors who may or may not be a great match for the dogs they are fostering, we only invite families in to meet dogs after they are pre-screened via the application and a telephone interview/conversation. Thank you.

These Boys are beautiful and would make a great play friends for my Buddy Holly. He is my Tri boy of 4 years. Maybe we can set up a time where I can bring BH up to see Hinkley and Brinkley and play a bit. BH is my priority so if they get along then maybe we can fill out an application.

Brinkley is obviously an excellent writer. He pays attention to detail and it sounds like he and Hinkley would make valuable contributions to any family.
As a foster to a 12 year old a few years ago, i can tell you that these too guys my well have many years ahead of them.
Also, please remember folks that the oldies are indeed goodies.
Give me an adult any day.. Shoes remain in tact, no surprises in the morning, someone who doesn't talk back to you, and most of all one that you will know love you and need you from the moment they walk into your home.
Good luck to you Brinkley. I sure hope Hinkley can go to your new home with you. Most people know that Cavalier's are like potato chips, but just in case, people, what's one more!

I live in Arbor Heights and by your address you are close. They are beautiful boys, wish I didn't work full time. There isn't anyone home from 6:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., not fair to the dogs. They should stay together if they have all their life, keep each other company but alone all day, still don't think it's fair.
    Hope someone adopts them soon.

They're beautiful dogs and sound like a wonderful pair! I only have the space to take in one dog, or I'd be all about H&B. I'd hate to see these boys separated unless it was a last resort. Good luck with placement. :)
