Kacy in Prairie Village, KS
Say hello to Kacy – a shy but sweet Ruby Cavalier born 8/11/2020. She originally came from a breeding facility and was released to Cavalier Rescue USA. Sweet Kacy is adjusting nicely in her foster home. She‘s slow to warm up to new and unfamiliar situations, but she’s coming out of her shell and learning to be a house pet at her foster home. It’s heartwarming to see Kacy enjoying affectionate interactions with her foster parents, such as snuggling with them on the couch while watching TV.
Kacy has been spayed and had a dental cleaning. During her spay surgery, the vet noticed that Kacy has obviously endured many litters, and he suspected possible pyometra (uterine infection). After a few rounds of antibiotics, she has recovered from her spay surgery and is doing well. Kacy’s heart is strong (no cardiac murmur), though her knees show mild luxating patella (no surgery needed). She is micro-chipped, up to date on vaccinations, and is on monthly flea/tick/heartworm preventative.
Kacy gets along great with her foster dog siblings, and foster parents say she’s a Velcro dog. She likes to follow her foster parents around the house. While she is feeling quite comfortable in her foster home, she is still cautious when she meets new people. Her foster parents have been taking her on short walks in the neighborhood and sometimes to the park. Kacy does well when no one else is around, but when she gets close to other people or kids, she becomes hesitant and unsure. Her foster parents keep trying to get her used to new people and surroundings to help her to gain confidence and reduce her fear of strangers. Other than her insecurity, she is a sweet little girl and just wants to be loved. Although she’s afraid of new situations, she does warm up after she knows you. Kacy will be a lovable pet for someone.
When Kacy came to us, she was not housebroken. She’s had a few accidents at her foster home, but she is making progress. It helps that she follows her foster Cavaliers outside when it’s time to do her business. She loves exploring the fenced backyard and chasing after squirrels.
She’s not a fan of thunderstorms. During a recent storm, Kacy was pacing and panting and could not be comforted. She cuddled up with one of her foster Cavaliers, but she still wasn’t happy until the storm was over. Using a ‘ThunderShirt’ might help to calm her. Kacy will do best with a person or family where someone is home part or most of the day. We are looking for someone who has patience and will allow her time to adjust and gain confidence. We think she would do best in a quiet, calm environment, rather than a busy, active household. Kacy does well with established routines, and she enjoys having the company of another easy-going canine companion in the house.
