Addison in East Lansing, MI
Update 3-11-23: We’ve received several promising applications for this pup so aren’t taking more for now. Thank you!
Addison (Addy for short) is a healthy 6.5-year-old Ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel born in August 2016. She was given to Cavalier Rescue USA by her breeder. Now she is retired, spayed, and has a dental scheduled for March 24. So she is ready to find her forever family!
Addy is the happiest and cuddliest girl you’ll ever meet. She lives to be a companion at your side and is an ultimate Velcro dog. She has been working on her manners. Addy loves every person she meets and is not shy, but energetic and happy-go-lucky. She’s food motivated, but if it’s choosing between a treat and a human, she will always choose the human.
Addy absolutely loves a walk and does well on her outdoor jaunts despite only recently learning how to be on a leash. She doesn’t sniff too much, but she’s learning from her fellow foster mom’s Cavaliers how to explore the world around her. She’s curious about other people and dogs from afar, but really has little interest in other dogs and pays no attention to her foster mom’s dogs, aside from learning some good walking habits and other manners. Addy’s happy to share space with the other Cavaliers and cuddle, as long she can cuddle with her foster mom too! She also loves car rides and has enjoyed visiting her foster mom’s office and coworkers. She loves making new human friends!
Addy is very curious, playful and incredibly smart. Doggie gates? She will use her body to move them. Busy feeder bowls to slow her eating? She will pick it up and drop it to release the rest of the kibble to eat more easily. Addy has recently learned how to play with toys and has slowly gotten more interested in stuffed toys that she’ll carry around the house. Occasionally she will play fetch, naturally retrieving the toy and returning it. She might grab a slipper or a sock, but she doesn’t chew them. Her recent discovery of new stuffed toys has helped cut back on the slipper thievery.
She is 80% housebroken, with occasional accidents. If she’s let out consistently, and often, she will easily do all her business outside. Addy does have some separation anxiety, so she would do best where her people are home most of the day or able to take her along with them. Her forever family will need patience to work through her separation anxiety and get her completely housebroken. A family with an active lifestyle is also preferred to keep up with her energy level.
Addy is a bit hard of hearing, but she does well with hand commands to sit or to invite her on your lap. Addy has recently been spayed, is awaiting a teeth cleaning on March 24, and is up-to-date on her vaccinations. The vet gave her a clean bill of health. We are accepting applications to review in advance of her teeth cleaning.
Addy would do well in a home with friendly dogs her size or as an only dog and while she would never dare take off from her humans, a fence is preferred so she can wander and enjoy the outside at her leisure. She’s been in the company of children and did fine, but Addy will thrive in a household where she can absorb most of the people love and attention. She’s also a little fearful of cats and would do best in a home without them.
