Annie in Raymore, MO

Meet Annie, a sweet little Blenheim girl looking for her forever home. She was released to Cavalier Rescue USA from a breeder in Missouri after her original owner could no longer care for her.

Not long after coming into rescue, Annie’s foster parents began to question if Annie might be deaf. She did not respond to her name – or any sound. When it was time for her (and foster dogs) to go outside, Annie would follow the other dogs. We believe that Annie would benefit having another dog in the house to help her navigate. Her foster parents noticed that she would bark when her humans were not in sight. After the vet determined that Annie indeed was deaf, it explained why she barked when alone – she wanted to be near her humans. When she could see you, she was content and did not bark.

Annie has a gentle personality, and she is friendly with dogs and humans. She is getting more comfortable at foster home and the barking has lessened. Now she doesn’t bark when her foster parents are out of her sight, as she realizes they come back. She likes to hang out with foster mom in the morning and watch her while she gets ready. Annie is very sweet and wants to be near you, and we are looking for a home where she would not be left alone for long periods. Annie gets along beautifully with foster dogs, and she really enjoys going on walks in the evening with foster dad and the other dogs.

Annie was intact and needed a dental when she came to us. She has since been spayed and had her teeth cleaned, and she has recovered from surgery. Annie is currently on Apoquel and a hydrolyzed dog food for her ongoing “itchy” skin condition. While it is improving, a follow-up vet visit is necessary.  She weighs 18 lbs.

Annie has been introduced to couch life and is quite comfortable there on a blanket but does perk up to watch an ongoing game of fetch. She hasn’t shown any interest in playing with toys, but that may come with time. Annie is a slow eater and not food motivated, so teaching her the path through the house has been a challenge with her hearing loss. She doesn’t always want to go out at night – you may have to carry her. Outside, she stays fairly close to the patio. Her contact with children has been limited to those she has met on a walk but goes up to them and enjoys them petting her.

Annie is being fostered in Raymore, MO. The ideal forever home for her would be one with a fenced yard, someone home part of the day, and another dog in the house.
