Meet Augie: A Sweet, Handsome Gentleman Looking for His Forever Home!

Augie is a charming 8-year-old Cavalier born on 6/26/2016 in search of his new forever family. Augie’s story is a sad one – he was beloved by a wonderful (human) mom and 2 (human) siblings from his adorable puppy days. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, his mom was forced to surrender him, wanting peace in the knowledge he would continue to be loved and cared for.  

While he may be a little shy at first, once he warms up, he is all sweetness and cuddles. And it is pure joy to experience him blossoming into the sweet, beautiful loving soul that adores everyone he meets.

Augie was the only doggie in the family, but happily and with zero issues joined a foster family with 2 Cavaliers and a very active social life. He has exhibited great compatibility with humans and dogs of all sizes, ages and temperaments and he has the coolest vibe with them all. By no fault of his own, the only other animals he has been exposed to was deer, which he was super curious about. Augie loves to cuddle (particularly some morning loving), play and just hang out – preferably on a couch or bed with some fluffy pillows.   

Augie is ridiculously excited about walks. He LOVES walks (might be his favorite thing!) and playing outside in the backyard. He also loves car rides, and has been a perfect companion on long(er) road trips (3+ hrs). He effortlessly adapts to new environments – restaurant patios, other homes, hotels, etc – and is always excited to meet new people. Other than some minimal barking when he gets excited, he is perfectly mannered – importantly fully house trained with not a single accident with his foster family. His sociable and charming nature makes him the perfect addition to any loving person seeking a four-legged friend to complete their home.

It’s important to note that Augie has a Grade 4 Heart Murmur, although that doesn’t slow him down at all. It has not progressed over the last few years, out of precaution he was recently put on daily medication after a cardiologist reviewed his echocardiogram, which he is doing well with. He was put on 2.5mg of Vetmedin twice a day. His new family will need to continue to have his heart monitored and medication adjusted accordingly as he ages. He is otherwise healthy and fully now up to date on vaccinations.   

Augie is such an easy good boy, we think he would fit well in any home as long as he is welcome on your comfiest pillows and furniture, and gets lots of cuddles and walks. While perfectly fine as an only child, he does love playing and hanging out with other dogs and a fenced backyard is certainly ideal. Augie may be 8, but he has the energy of a young pup!
