Ava in St. Louis, MO

JUST ADOPTED!

Here is Ava with her new family…

Ava is a sweet, loving, adorable 3-year-old Blenheim Cavalier girl. Like most Cavaliers she is very attached to her foster mom. She was released to Cavalier Rescue USA from a commercial breeder. She is very timid and scared of noises and new people. However, when she is comfortable and feels safe, she is happy, joyful, and has become playful. She is starting to run around and is showing signs of being interested in toys, specifically chasing a ball.

Besides loving her foster mom, she loves her foster sibling dogs. She wants them to play with her and finds great comfort in cuddling with them. She would do best in a home with another young, gentle dog that will play with her and show her the ropes of being a pet. She would not do well as an only dog as she looks to her foster siblings for guidance on how to be a dog and they seem to be helping with her confidence.

Since coming to Cavalier Rescue USA, Ava has been spayed, had a much needed dental where several teeth needed to be extracted (she can still eat kibble and in fact her mouth must feel much better without those rotten teeth!), was treated for Giardia, and was treated for ear infections. She was also brought up to date on her vaccinations and monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventatives.

She is still working on potty training. She is learning and will whine if she is not left out when she needs to go. If you learn her bathroom schedule, and follow it, she will potty outside. She still has to be coaxed to eat. She is improving though, and no longer needs to be hand fed.

Ava is smart and by watching her foster siblings, has learned to navigate the dog door to hang out with her foster family and foster dog siblings in their fenced in yard. However, since she is so small, she can easily fit through their fence so her foster family has been using a special collar so she cannot do this. A physically fenced in yard with a solid fence would be best for Ava in her forever home.

Ava loves going on leashed walks with her foster mom and foster siblings! She is still learning on how to walk in a straight line as she prefers to zig zag and stop to smell the roses (and eat grass)! She is not a fan of her crate. She may do well if she is crated with a second dog but would prefer to sleep in bed with her people and other dogs.
