Bailey in Houston, TX

Bailey is a rootin’ tootin’ Cavalier King Charles Spaniel living in the Lone Star state.  This little guy is 17 pounds of Texas attitude and one stout little cow poke. Bailey has had a tough year, but his future looks bright! Sadly, Bailey’s family was unable to provide the medical care he needed so they asked CR-USA for assistance.  

At about one-year old, Bailey started having some strange scratching. After treating him for allergies the scratching continued, and the vet began to suspect a neurological disorder called Syringomyelia (or SM). SM is not uncommon in this breed. We took Bailey to see a Neurologist and started treating him with medication for SM. The medication has helped immensely.  

Additionally, Bailey started having pain in his hips. It came on suddenly and he was in severe pain, unable to walk. X-rays showed that Bailey was born with bilateral hip dysplasia and needed immediate surgery. Bailey had FHO surgery in September and was up moving in no time. He has regained muscle strength in his hips and is completely healed. Thank goodness CR-USA was able to help sweet Bailey with the medical care he desperately needed! 

Bailey will be 2 years old in April. He is your typical Cavalier, sweet as molasses. His foster family says that he could live on love. His two favorite pastimes are cuddling and going on long walks with his foster siblings. Bailey will need oral medication twice a day to combat “phantom scratching” for the rest of his sweet life. His foster family says that he walks better and faster than the other dogs in their home, pulls and tugs on toys with them and is otherwise a normal Cavalier boy. He is crate trained and housetrained and LOVES treats. Bailey is great with cats and other friendly dogs as well!  

This is a special boy who will require special love and attention from his forever family.  He has been through a lot in his short life, so we want to find a home where he will be pampered and loved. We think he would be best suited to a home without young children and at least one parent that is home for much of the day to ensure he receives his daily dose of cuddles.
