Benny in Logansport, IN

Here is Benny with his new family…

Benny is a handsome 6-year-old Blenheim who came into rescue after his owner passed away. He enjoys playing with toys, especially squeaky and chew toys, but his favorite thing is spending time with his person, particularly sitting on the couch together. Benny is the typical affectionate Cavalier, and he likes to follow his person around the house, and he would do well with a family who has someone home most of the time. He gets along well with his foster family’s other Cavaliers, and he enjoys exploring the yard, playing, and taking naps with them.

Benny is housebroken, and he has not had a single accident in his foster home. He is also great in the car and enjoys riding in his car seat. While Benny likes being with the other dogs in his foster home, he was an only dog in his previous home. So, he would be happy as an only dog or in a home with other dogs.

Benny is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and takes monthly heartworm and flea preventatives. He does have mitral valve disease (grade 3), but he does not need medication at this time. He also has hip dysplasia and limps occasionally, especially if he has been playing too hard or running too much with the other dogs but surgery is not needed. He is currently taking a joint supplement, Dasuquin, to help with his joints, and it has helped significantly. Benny also has some food allergies that caused recurring ear infections, but after going on a limited ingredient diet, his ear issues have cleared up.

Benny does have some resource guarding issues and is fed in a crate. He is quite happy to eat in his crate, and he will run to it when told to and wait for his food. Occasionally, he will also guard things like a slipper or shoe, but these episodes have decreased as Benny has gotten more comfortable in his foster home.

Benny would be happiest in a home without children and with someone at home most of the time. With his hip dysplasia, a home without stairs or where he would be on one level would be best. A fenced yard is also needed as he likes exploring the yard at his own pace.
