Bentley in Federal Way, WA

Meet Bentley: The Lovable Couch Potato (with a Dash of Adventure). If you’re looking for a devoted, fluffy shadow whose mission in life is to share your home’s coziest spots, then this sweet boy is for you. A small disclaimer: he has no idea his name is Bentley. When he first came to his foster home, the only word he responded to was “burger,” so he lovingly got the nickname “Cheese Burger” and a million silly versions of it.

Bentley is an absolute loverboy who operates on one simple principle: shared space is the best space. He is searching for a human (or humans) who are home a lot and happy to share their presence. He gets along with everyone, likes other dogs, and seems indifferent to other animals. He doesn’t have to be in your lap, but he will need space on the couch and the bed.

This handsome, tri-color gentleman is the definition of a “Couch Potato Champion.” His favorite pastimes include deep, contented naps, tasty snacks, and keeping the cushion warm just for you. He’s living proof that the best things in life are simple: a soft blanket, a full food bowl, and the sound of his favorite people nearby. But don’t let his potato status fool you! Bentley still has a little spring in his step and loves his time outdoors. He enjoys a good, gentle romp in a fenced backyard to stretch his legs and sniff all the interesting smells. He’s happy with a short stroll (he prefers to amble at his own pace and pick the direction) or just puttering around outside.

A Few Things to Know About Bentley:

–He’s a Meds Man: Because he is an older gentleman, around 9-10 years old, he does come with a couple of special needs, and he is on a few medications to keep him feeling his best and happiest. His meds cost around $130/month.

Bentley has a grade 5 heart murmur and takes Vetmedin twice daily. He takes his pills like a champ, especially if they’re hidden in his food or (even better) a tasty treat! He’ll be due to see the cardiologist for a recheck in the new year, and then as recommended.

He also has KCS (keratoconjunctivitis sicca) aka dry eye syndrome. The ophthalmologist prescribed Tacrolimus eye drops twice a day to improve tear production, and an OTC lubricating gel multiple times a day to keep his eyes lubricated and comfortable. He has limited vision in his right eye and no vision in his left eye. Thankfully, the eye medications have helped him regain some vision. It’s imperative that he gets his eye meds as prescribed to keep him comfortable and avoid further vision loss.

–The Sweetest Soul: He is incredibly sweet and gentle. He loves to cuddle with humans and his Cavalier foster brothers. While he can be timid when new people try to interact with him, he has no fears being around new people or situations.

–Shady Past: Bentley was found alone, wandering the street as a stray and in bad shape. He had ear infections, cracked teeth, untreated dry eye that left him nearly blind, a hernia, overgrown nails, and matting to the point of needing to be shaved down. He’s since had his medical needs addressed and is doing great. We don’t know what his prior living situation was, but he has been learning the routines and habits of being a good house dog. His housetraining is 80% there, but he has very subtle cues about when he needs to go out. With a little more time and consistency, he should get there soon.

–Ideal Home: Bentley would thrive in a calm, quiet home where his people are around to dote on him. He is a very calm dog who loves other dogs, but he’d also be perfectly happy being your one-and-only as long as he wasn’t left alone too much. Since his vision is somewhat impaired, a predictable environment with minimal stairs is best. He can see enough to navigate the house and yard, but fast movements are hard for him.

Bentley is ready to show you that there’s nothing sweeter than the love of an old dog. All he needs is a family to give him the comfortable, loving retirement he deserves. Could that be you?
