Charley in Franklin, NC

JUST ADOPTED!

Here is Charley with his new family…

Meet Charley! This handsome fella is 7 years old and made his way into rescue after his owner sadly passed away.

He’s super easygoing, laid-back, and calm. He arrived to us a bit neglected, likely due to his owner’s failing health. He was overweight, and had a skin infection on his paws. All of these things caused him to struggle to walk comfortably. We also discovered he has a mild case of hip dysplasia and degenerative joint disease in his right hip. Since in foster care, he’s lost weight (now weighs 19 lbs) thanks to his foster mom feeding him a high quality food and carefully measuring his meals. He’s also been taking daily over-the-counter joint supplements and as needed prescription anti-inflammatory meds. He’s now able to move around much better and even enjoys the occasional wrestling match with his foster fur sibling!

Charley has a history of impacted anal glands, so after a few unsuccessful procedures to flush his anal glands, his current vet decided it would be best for Charley to have his anal sacs removed. He had that done recently and is feeling so much better! Charley has also had a dental cleaning and extractions while in foster care.

Even while enduring medical treatments, Charley has maintained a fantastic attitude and has been a trooper through all his procedures! He enjoys spending time with other like-sized dogs and especially with humans. He also gets alongs well with his foster parent’s blind cat.

He is a bit more independent than some Cavaliers, but truly loves treats and some occasional affection from his people. He loves to sit beside his foster parents on the sofa when they help him on and off the sofa, but also returns to his crate on his own for some alone time and a quiet nap.

Charley does have some mild separation anxiety but that is understandable, considering his past. Because of this, Charley needs a home where someone is home most of the day.

He walks well on a leash and loves going for short walks. His new owner needs to be committed to taking him for short walks each day and helping him maintain a healthy weight to keep his mobility issues at bay. He responds to his name and is learning the command, “Do your business,” when his foster parents take him to go potty.

Charley has a grade 3 heart murmur, common in the breed. He has seen a cardiologist while in our care and currently takes Vetmedin twice a day. Charley will need to be seen by a Cardiologist every 9-12 months and may require additional meds in the future.

Charley is a quiet guy and is only vocal when he meets other dogs while on a walk or for a short duration when he think he’s going to be left in the car. He sleeps in his crate at night, but would likely really like to sleep in the big bed with his new humans.

He uses the doggie door in his foster home to go potty, but also goes out with his foster parents. He needs a home with a fenced yard so he can continue to enjoy safely exploring off leash. We’d also like him to continue to have canine companionship, so a home with a calm like-sized dog, is best for Charley. Older, respectful dog savvy kids would be OK too!
