Charlie in Florence, KY
Meet Charlie, the 10-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who has captured the hearts of everyone in his foster home. Charlie came into rescue when a Good Samaritan found him. He was filthy, emaciated and sick. But in just a few weeks with proper medical treatment, good nutrition and most importantly love he is on the road to making a full recovery.
This energetic and loving pup is known for his friendly demeanor, especially when it comes to other dogs. Charlie loves nothing more than playing and socializing with his four-legged friends making him the life of the party at his foster’s home. He wouldn’t be good in a home with cats however.
When it comes to food, Charlie is a true connoisseur. He takes his meals very seriously and will do just about anything for a tasty treat. His foster family has learned to hide their snacks as Charlie has a knack for sniffing them out and begging for a bite. He is on the skinny side, due to a disease called Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency, which is easily remedied with a pancreatic enzyme that he takes with his breakfast and dinner. He had lost most all his teeth when found and then lost the few remaining once in rescue. Charlie is also heartworm positive, but has been treated recently and has taken massive strides toward a healthy life!
He does well on a leash and harness or collar. He will sleep in a crate if it’s in the bedroom with a big cushy bed. He did have a murmur, but it’s decreased in intensity since his heartworm treatment, so grade 2/6 and asymptomatic. He absolutely needs a fenced in yard. He can use a doggy door and will go outside to potty, but does have to wear a belly band indoors. He will “mark” occasionally, but it has improved since his neuter. Soon this should stop completely.
Despite his rough start in life, Charlie has blossomed into a loving and loyal companion. He may be a little older, but he still has a youthful spirit and a heart full of love to give. Whether he is cuddled up on the couch or exploring the great outdoors, Charlie is always happy as long as he is with his humans. He may have had a rocky past, but his future is looking bright with a forever home on the horizon.
