Charlie in Lynden, WA

JUST ADOPTED!

Here’s a picture of Charlie with his new mom…

Hi, I’m Charlie! I am an energetic 6-year-old looking for my forever home. I came into rescue when my previous owner had some life changes and was unable to keep me.

Do you like to go for walks? I sure do! I love to go for walks. I walk great on a leash and enjoy a good sniff or two. I enjoy meeting and greeting others during my walks, though I do bark occasionally if another dog barks first. Oh, now birds or squirrels that is different–I will always bark and chase after them. So, I’m told I need to be leashed at all times on my walks and a secured yard at home is a must.

My ideal home is with someone who can be with me most of the day. I enjoy naps, snacks, and being close by (I hope you like a Cavalier shadow!). I really enjoy playing one-on-one with my foster mom and dad, so be sure to pencil in some playtime. I do have some separation anxiety but I stop barking after a few minutes when left in my crate.

In my previous home, I was an only dog. I currently live with three other Cavaliers, and while it was nice to have their help in adjusting, I’m much more into people. I struggle a bit with some dog interactions, like sometimes I play a little too rough and I can be pushy when I want my foster family’s attention first. It seems I have more of a dominant personality, but trust me, I’m still all Cavalier! This might be why I have a tendency to lift my leg in new places and leave my mark all around the neighborhood. I also have to be fed separately since I have some food aggression around food bowls at meal time. I think in my new home I’d like to either be the only dog, or have just one canine sibling that is very laid back. I’ve done well with cats before, so a dog-savvy cat should be okay, too.

While I am more active than my foster parents’ Cavaliers, I still enjoy a good nap on the couch. I’m pretty outgoing, and I love meeting new people and being outside–the perfect combo for adventures! But it’s best to plan for local outings since I get anxious and bark at times during car rides. At night, I’m happy to sleep in my crate or x-pen, and I actually prefer not to sleep in the big bed, which is probably a good thing since I snore. 🙂 I’m an early riser so I hope you are too!

I weigh 24 pounds and am a little overweight so my foster family has been decreasing my food. After coming into rescue, I saw the doctor and had my teeth cleaned and three removed. It turns out I also had urinary crystals, a UTI, and an elevated pH. For the time being, I’m on a special food and taking a medication for the pH. My foster parents also make sure I drink lots of water.

So, that’s me—a sweet, friendly, cuddly buddy with a cute snore! If your family is a good match for me and you’d like to be considered for my new home, be sure to complete the online application (if you haven’t previously) and then email Melissa at happycavaliers04@gmail.com so she knows of your interest.
