Charlie in Seattle, WA

Meet Charlie! Charlie is a gentle 4-year-old Blenheim boy looking for his forever home. He came into rescue because his family of two weeks felt he would be happier in a home where he was the only dog, or perhaps with a family where he’d get a lot of attention from multiple family members if there were another dog. Before that, he was a sire for a breeder but they did not want him back for rehoming.

During the first two weeks with his foster dad, Charlie let him know when he as anxious by nervously whining. It happened when they’d go for a walk and in general was he was unsure about what was happening or about to happen. This has gotten better but he’s still a bit anxious at times. He has really taken a liking to walks and enjoys sniffing and strolling. Leisurely walks where he gets to stop humans for pets make him happy; he’s very social. It seems like these are new experiences and he is really enjoying life as a beloved pup that gets to experience the world.

Charlie likes to cuddle and nap. He and his Cavalier foster brother move around the home to make sure that they nap in all of the dog beds. Charlie has discovered a love for cosmic crisp apples and gives his foster dad those adorable puppy dog eyes until he shares a piece. He is very much a Velcro dog and little shadow, following his foster dad from room to room, even if it’s just several feet away. He wants to be with his person, to be loved, and he looks for love on a constant basis.

Early Sunday morning they all visit Jack Block Park and Charlie takes an extended sniff and stroll along with a visit to the beach. He likes to stop at Mud Bay and the place that makes eggs for him. He interacts well with humans and dogs too. However, he is not comfortable around bigger dogs, especially if they are barking as this makes him cower.

Charlie is on the timid side and in general not very confident, but he’s so very sweet and needs doting family members that will shower him with attention and love. He did not adjust easily to living in a condominium where he had to be leashed for potty breaks as he’d whine and didn’t go potty regularly even with frequent trips outside. He’s since learned to go potty on walks, but we think he’d much prefer a fenced yard.

While in rescue, Charlie has been neutered and had a dental where he lost several teeth. He’s been brought up to date on his vaccinations and microchipped. He’s a healthy boy.

Charlie would do well in a home where he’s the only dog. However, one other dog of similar size would be okay if there were multiple humans in the home to shower him with constant love and attention. Older, gentle kids should be okay, but we don’t think he’d like to live with younger children. He lived with cats previously. He needs a fenced yard where he can run, sniff, and do his business off leash. Also, it’s important that he is with his people most of the time; he truly needs this to be happy.
