Chowbella in Wood River, IL

Hello – my name is Chowbella, but my foster mom calls me Bella. When she does, I come running! I’m 6 years old and I came to Cavalier Rescue USA when a Good Samaritan rescued me from a breeding situation. I was really scared! I knew nothing about noises, people, leashes, or even a backyard. My foster mom says I have learned so much! The fenced backyard at my foster home is a fun place to be; there are all kinds of things to discover and watch, like birds, squirrels, and butterflies. Also, I have learned to use a doggy door, so I never have accidents in the house! I sleep all night in my crate near my foster mom, with the crate door open. I sure would like to sleep in the big bed with the rest of the puppies, but my foster mom says I must wait until I have my forever home.

I really like to chew, and not just on toys and bones! People in my new home will have to be sure that household items are orderly and out of my reach. I am also vocal when it comes to mealtimes! I eat every morsel of kibble, especially when there are vegetables mixed into it. When I came into Rescue, I weighed 21½ pounds; I now weigh 18 ½ pounds, which is just right for a Cavalier with my build.

Since I arrived in Rescue, I have been spayed, had my teeth cleaned, and went to the cardiologist. I have a grade 3 heart murmur and take one medication to control it. It will be time for my checkup with a cardiologist in one year. My blood test results showed that I was low on vitamin B-12, so I take a supplement. To be sure I am healthy, this level will have to be tested in the future, too. I am current on my vaccinations and take a monthly heartworm/flea preventative.

I enjoy snuggling on my foster mom’s lap, and I always know where she is – inside, outside, or wherever – because I am usually right with her. My foster dad is nice, but I am not as sure of males as I am of females. I am getting better around males, but it will continue to take time and patience to completely overcome this discomfort.

I like going for walks now! For a long time, I was afraid of the leash. My foster mom would put the leash on me, but then she would have to pick me up and carry me because I would simply sit down where I was and not move. The leash is okay now, but my foster mom says I still must learn walking manners.

It sure would be nice to find my forever home! If you would like to meet me, thank you! Please fill out our online application if you haven’t already. Then send an email to Meg at cavalierrescuemeg@gmail.com to let her know that you have an interest in me. My tail will be wagging when we meet!
