Cutie Pie in Camas, WA
Here’s a picture of Cutie with her new family…
This girl is not only a CUTIE, she is also a happy and friendly dog! Cutie is a 1-year-old Tri-color Cavalier who enjoys being with her people and has never met a stranger. She always looks forward to greeting her foster mom’s students and their families at the front door, following every family member around the house, and going on daily walks! She was surrendered to CR-USA due to her owner’s declining health.
Playing ball (mini tennis balls are her favorite), tug-of-war, and simply running around with her three foster Cavalier sisters, whom she gets along with very well, have helped her shed some excess weight. She came into rescue weighing 32 lbs. and is down to 28, but she still has several more to lose. Her new family needs to be committed to Cutie’s weight loss journey.
Cutie loves being around people so much and is content lying down next to you or sleeping right at your feet. If you are not within her line of vision, Cutie will be sure to let you know! She has displayed separation anxiety in her foster home and needs to be left in a crate when her people leave. Very low alone time where she can be with her people most of the time is a must.
Cutie has transitioned well to expanding her palate by exploring a variety of fruits and vegetables. Crunching on carrots is her go-to snack! She is motivated by food of all kinds and is eager to please. Cutie can be vocal when she hears a strange noise or sees someone walking by the house, but she will usually stop right when you call for her.
Because she was used to potty pads with her previous owner, Cutie needs reminders to go outside to go potty often. She is steadily improving in her training as she follows the lead of her foster sisters in basic commands, as well as going in and out of the doggy door, but she still has occasional accidents.
Upon coming into rescue, Cutie had a front leg limp but it has improved with weight loss and exercise. Now, at most she has a short-lived slight limp after long walks. Her veterinarian recommends x-rays should the limp become problematic in the future to check for elbow dysplasia. She also has a grade-1 luxating patella in her right knee that does not bother her. Weight loss will help resolve stress on her joints and she’s been started on a joint supplement.
Overall, Cutie has a sweet, affectionate temperament and is making wonderful progress in living an active, healthy lifestyle. She has so much potential and a whole lot of love to give! She’s looking for a family that can spend most of their time with her and take her on adventures and daily walks. She’d love another playful dog in the house and kids over the age 5 are a good fit for her too.
