Dean in Norwalk, CT

Meet Dean! He is as handsome as they come and equally loving! This pup is 6 years old, born 12/10/2019. He is very well behaved and it’s obvious he received a great deal of training. He is completely potty trained, comes when called, lays down on command and “goes to bed” when directed. In his previous life he slept in a crate with the door open. However, he has become quite fond of sleeping in the human’s bed. An entire flight of stairs is a little intimidating for him, but he has been brave and climbs alone now. At times he still needs encouragement and when he’s tired prefers to be carried up and down the stairs. Three-four steps are no issue.

Dean loves to be brushed, he likes the attention and the built-in massage. He desperately wants to please and is happiest next to his person, even finding comfort in a paw touch. Car rides are a breeze for him, as he just lays down and goes to sleep. Dean is very well adjusted and adapts quickly to his environment. He is a little cautious when initially meeting new people, especially men. It appears he has a bit of a negative history with men but he has overcome some of his fears, with encouragement. Patience will be needed as he navigates building trust in men.

Walks are his favorite, galavanting through fields while delightfully sniffing the emerging Spring flowers! He grew up in a home with a very young child, a cat and another dog and, I suspect, he misses them. He absolutely adores other Cavaliers and I am positive he would love a Cavalier sibling. 

In true Cavalier form, he follows his foster Mom everywhere and cries when he can’t see her. It is imperative he be in a home with a human around the majority of the time. And even better if there’s another dog. Also, even though he walks beautifully on a leash a fenced in yard is always a plus.

He has been newly diagnosed with a heart murmur for which he has been prescribed medications. He will will require monitoring. At 25.5 lbs, he could stand to lose a few pounds. Otherwise he is perfect!
