Flynn in York, PA
Here is Flynn with his new family…
The name “Flynn” means “descendant of the red-haired one.” This handsome 3-year-old Ruby boy certainly has a gorgeous red coat. Unfortunately, he didn’t always look so good. Flynn spent the first three years of his life as a breeding dog on a farm in Lancaster County. He was given up when his ears became badly infected and he was itchy all of the time. Luckily he landed himself into the care of rescue.
We immediately treated his badly inflamed ears and gave him a Cytopoint injection to help with the constant itching. He had a lot of hair loss and evidence of flea bites. We gave him several baths and put him on flea/tick preventative medication, and got him started on a good diet and probiotics.
Flynn soon began to feel better, and was able to be vaccinated and neutered. He also had a dental exam and lost eleven teeth. Fortunately, he has a great appetite. His coat had grown back nicely and he is no longer itchy. Flynn does not need any medications for his ears or his coat, as he responded well to the diet change.
Flynn had some muscle weakness when he was first rescued, most likely due to spending so much time in a cage. His change in diet and ability to run and play has made a huge change in him and he now runs and jumps with ease. Flynn is on the thinner side (15 pounds), and could stand to gain about a pound.
Flynn is doing well with his potty training but needs to go out as soon as he is finished eating. He is currently being fostered with another male Cavalier, and they get along well. He has also spent time with other cavaliers and had some playdates, and did just fine with other dogs. Flynn is cat-tested as well, and is well-suited to living with a cat.
Flynn can be a little shy at first, but soon warms up to humans. He does seem to enjoy the exploring a securely fenced yard so he is hoping his family has a secure place for him to roam, as well as a canine companion. Flynn is okay with children, as long as they are respectful, as sudden movements can frighten him a bit.
Flynn will sleep in the crate at night, but he does not love it and would rather be around the other dogs or humans. He is a bit too fond of stealing the toilet paper off the roll, so he needs to be kept out of the bathroom!
