Gracie in Cinnaminson, NJ

JUST ADOPTED!

Here is Gracie with her new dad…

Hello from New Jersey! Please meet Gracie. She is a petite girl, weighing just 13 lbs, and she has tons of personality and will greet all with friendly curiosity. Gracie does have a special friend that she loves the most. Her foster dad reigns supreme in Gracie’s eyes and when he is not in sight she will search the house high and low. Gracie will snuggle with Mom too, but less frequently. You can usually find Gracie snuggled in as close as possible when Dad is stationary and right underfoot when moving. If you are persistent, Gracie can be convinced to nap next to you instead of on you but if you are not up for a serious velcro dog, Gracie is not for you.

Gracie is around 4-5 years old and came into rescue from a commercial breeder. She recently had a dental examination where she lost 22 teeth. Fortunately, she retained all four canines and most of her molars so she can handle small kibble just fine. Gracie eats in her crate and is usually the first to finish. She is heart clear and her knees and hips are good. She does have some eye issues, which will need ongoing monitoring and care. She has two kinds of dry eye, both quantitative and qualitative dry eye and is on both drops and ointment two times per day. This condition is both painful and damaging to her eyes so her new family must be dedicated to her continued eye care. Her tear production has doubled with the medication, but the quality of her tears will take longer to respond to medication. Gracie is spayed, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines and monthly preventative meds.

She is crate trained for times when we leave the house and is happy with that arrangement. Gracie does love the big bed, and would be most happy if her forever people would share the space with her. She has an occasional snore but it’s not loud at all.

Gracie is very quiet, doesn’t mind thunderstorms or fireworks, and household noises are also no bother to her. She lives with two Cavalier sisters and a very dog-friendly male cat. She shows no ill will towards the cat and mostly ignores him. Gracie has done very well with house training, only two accidents in the house, but she does not signal, so she needs to be taken out every few hours. She is starting to play with the girls and likes to join in the zoomies. She has also discovered toys and likes to carry them in her mouth.  She conquered steps both up and down, she knows “sit.” She is a dream leash walker, no pulling, no zig zagging. Gracie is very interested in who is coming in and out of her front door, so care needs to be taken that Gracie is monitored when people are entering and exiting the house. She rides nicely in the car.

In her forever home,  Gracie will need at least one other pup of similar size and temperament, a fenced yard for zoomies, and a crate to retreat to for meals and naps. She will need access to a veterinary ophthalmologist and a family with an unwavering commitment to administer eye meds for life, and most of all, people (she may pick a favorite) who are home most of the day and willing to be covered with love and kisses from this super sweet little girl.
