Hank in Lee’s Summit, MO

Hank is a 5-month-old Blenheim Cavalier born on 8/25/22. He has typical puppy traits, as he loves to play, explore new areas, and is very curious. He loves all types of toys-squeaky, crinkly, ropes..anything he can bite..and certain ones he likes to get a little frisky with! He loves to play with is foster Cavalier sisters and his favorite game is tug-of-war.

Like most Cavaliers, Hank is definitely a cuddlier! He is a lover. He likes meeting new humans, they are new people to snuggle with and give kisses to. Hank is in the process of potty training and needs to go out pretty frequently during the day. He is 7 lbs right now and is curious to see what is on the other side of the fence, so his foster parents have kept a leash on him outside even though they have a fenced backyard. He’s a thrill-seeker, at times wanting to get through the fence, railing on the stairs, chase cars (from inside of the fence). Hank does well in his kennel even though you can tell he doesn’t like being in there. He wants to be with you!

Hank’s foster mom noticed that when he runs his knees slip out of place often and that he had an abnormal gait when he runs. Hank recently visited the orthopedic specialist and was diagnosed with a grade 1 luxating patella on his left patella and grade 1-2 luxating patella on his right patella. He will need to be re-evaluated when he is 8-9 months old by a specialist to determine if surgery is needed. He will also need to stay on a glucosamine with chondroitin supplement. Hank’s forever family should understand that one or both knees have a good chance of requiring surgery in the future and they will need to have the means and willingness to do surgery down the line if Hank is in need of surgery.

Hank also has an open fontanelle, but doesn’t show any signs of problems from it so far. His veterinarian said that his fontanelle could still close, but he is not sure if it will. Hank is up to date on all vaccines and on heartworm and flea/tick prevention.

Hank’s perfect home would be a place where one of his people are home frequently to continue to work on potty training, are patient, and who has another friendly dog to play with. Because Hank is a puppy, he needs more supervision because of his curiosity. Loud and sudden noises terrify Hank so he would be happiest in a home with older children.

Hank’s forever family will be required and must agree to have him neutered at about 9 months old. He is currently too young for that procedure. The adoption will be based on that agreement and not final until the neuter certificate is provided to Cavalier Rescue USA.
