Holly in Overland Park, KS
JUST ADOPTED!
Here is Holly with her new mom…
Say hello to this sweet little tricolor girl, Holly. She is a petite Cavalier weighing about 12 lbs. Holly is 7 years old and was born 12/18/2017.
She originally came from a commercial breeder and was released to Cavalier Rescue USA. She is shy but starting to relax in her foster home. She especially enjoys times on the couch with her foster parents. If foster mom gets up from the couch, Holly will bark at her as if to say, ‘Come Back!’. We are looking for a family with patience and understanding to help her feel safe and gain confidence. Noisy, rowdy behavior is a bit scary to Holly, so adults and well-behaved older children would be a good match for this dog. We think she will be happy in a quiet home with a calm routine.
Holly has been spayed and had a dental cleaning. She lost a few teeth, but she is doing fine and has recovered well from her surgery. When she was at the vet’s office, everyone fell in love with her. She is so sweet and so precious! Holly’s heart is good (no cardiac murmur), and her knees checked out fine (normal patella). She is microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and is on monthly flea/tick/heartworm preventatives.
Holly is comfortable with other dogs. She follows her foster brother Rocky wherever he goes and is usually by his side. She also likes to follow her foster parents around the house. Holly loves to be with her people, and she’s content when they are in the room with her. We think she has a bit of separation anxiety, so we want to place her in a home where she is not left alone for long periods.
After her dental, Holly was on soft food for two weeks. Her mouth has since healed, but she still prefers soft food. She’s a good eater and loves her meals. She’s been caught with her paws on the table, trying to see if there’s anything to eat (of course, we are discouraging this behavior). Holly hasn’t shown an interest in doggie toys yet, but she’s quite fond of bully sticks and dog-safe bones.
She loves exploring the fenced backyard and chasing after squirrels. We recommend a securely fenced yard for her. Holly is making progress with housebreaking, though it’s still a work in progress. She sleeps through the night and does well if kept to a schedule – but if not watched, she might have an accident. Although we’ve seen improvement, she will benefit from continued and consistent training.
Holly doesn’t like to go on walks, even with foster brother Rocky showing her the way. Foster mom keeps trying, and we’re confident that she’ll learn with repetition and patience. She likes having Rocky around; they have formed a friendly bond, and she is always near him. We think she will do well with another dog in the house. The Foster family also has a young kitty, of which Holly is not a fan. She is calm with the kitty if they are sleeping on opposite ends of the couch. But Holly doesn’t like it when kitty tries to eat her food.
