Hershey and Kisses in Oak Ridge, TN

Hershey and Kisses are a loving pair that were surrendered by their owners who could no longer care for them. They are content, trusting pups and readily adapted to our foster home and became friends with our two dogs.

Hershey is a 9-year-old Black and Tan Cavalier. He is sleek and athletic with an occasional slapstick element of clumsiness. Hershey's heart murmur was ranked by the cardiologist at a grade 4 out of 6 (although he exhibits very few symptoms). He was deemed plenty healthy to be anesthetized to have a few bad teeth removed and be neutered.

Hershey is very affectionate and is happiest on someone's lap. He is a comic too. He is not allowed to beg at the dinner table, but usually at least once he stands up on his hind legs to peer over the table. When dismissed, he glances nervously around the room without complying. "Maybe they don't mean me...maybe if I don't make eye contact they will not require me to get down....well they definitely are talking to me....I better get down". Then his eyes sink below the horizon of the table ever so slowly like the setting sun. It is so comical it takes us a while to return to eating. He also cares a lot for Kisses. Sometimes he even helps groom her coat.

Kisses is an 8-year-old Cavalier plus something (perhaps Cocker?) yielding her black and white color and bear-cub body style. Kisses also has a heart murmur estimated to be a grade 3 but shows no symptoms of a weak heart except it is a challenge for her to stay cool enough. She is on a weight loss program which will hopefully help this and lessen her panting/snoring. She definitely would not be able to spend a hot summer day outside. Kisses appears to have significant hearing loss. Development of some hand signals with her would be necessary.

Kisses has a lot of personality. Her expressive eyes say a lot. Just when you think you have pegged her as "satisfied to just lounge around", you find her walking catlike along the back of the couch just to prove to herself that "she can" or balancing on the log in the back yard. Anything she can treat as a balance beam is fun for her. She has a delightful low bark that she reserves for two important occasions: Ready for dinner and ready to go outside. Kisses doesn't need fully involved lap time as long as she can be near and preferably touching a foot or an arm.

Both Hershey and Kisses love to go in the car. They are accustomed to sleeping in their kennels (close to each other) all night and also for up to a few hours during your absence during the day if you prefer -- although they are not destructive and could safely be left loose in the house. They are house trained and well behaved and a pleasure to have in the home.
