Mia in Concord, MA

Meet Mia, the Wannabe Beatles Rock Star!

My name is Mia, but my foster family affectionately calls me “Twist & Shout” because of my trademark “twist-in-circles-&-bark” dance that I show off whenever I’m excited. I am a 9-year-old  sweet Blenheim Cavalier, who was surrendered to rescue when my owner no longer could take care of me.

I live in foster with a 10-year-old male Cavalier, who is deaf. I help him out by alerting him to noises, while he has taught me the important things in life - barking and begging for food. My foster muvver tells me that I’m feisty because I nose Oscar out of the way when I try to get attention and when I try to get a drink of water from the bowl he is slurping up. Oscar, who is much bigger than me, lets me get away with anything -- because I am pretty darn cute! Love, Love Me Do!

While I am a very happy Cavalier and I constantly wag my tail when I see people, I am a tough little girl with some special needs. I get by With A Little Help From My Friends

When I came into foster, I was diagnosed with Syringomyelia, which is a neurological disorder with symptoms of weakness, pain, head bobbing, and an inability to walk without thumping and scratching. Some people describe my hobbling circular walking as, “playing an air guitar”. I make the drum sound by repeatedly slapping my foot on the floor, so I consider this to mean that I’m musically inclined. I could’ve been a rock star, probably a member of the Beatles, what with my hardy British background.

Like most Cavaliers, I have had my share of dental work done. I am working on housetraining and need to be adopted by someone who is supportive, patient, and positive in my training. We Can Work It Out. I also have a grade 3 heart murmur, which currently is premedication. Speaking of meds, I do not mind downing the five medications that I take daily to manage my SM. My muvver puts them in ‘Smores-form for me three times a day: Slap a little peanut butter between two treats, stick the meds in the middle and I am a happy l’il Cav till the pain comes rolling around again in six hours! The total cost for my pills per month is about ($75). I know All You Need Is Love, but I need my meds, too.

Besides being a Beatles fan, my hobbies are: (1) trying my best to follow my human every step he/she takes (2) eating (3) going for a stroller ride (4) getting a bath (5) dancing to Twist & Shout (6) watching television. I especially like barking at the dogs on television. THEY ARE ALL AFRAID OF ME!! I can tell - because they never come out of the box once I start barking. Ha. I’m too tough for them!   Wimps!

My foster parents bought me a stroller to ride in when we go on walks, as I cannot keep up due to my SM. I love going for rolls in the stroller and seeing all of the new sights and Strawberry Fields Forever. Oscar begs for a Ticket To Ride in my stroller, but muvver says he can’t ride because he needs to stay in shape. I’m a package deal with my stroller, so if you adopt me, you get my stroller, too! Bonus!!! A $79.99 savings!!!

I am working on my separation anxiety issues and although I am tough as steel on the inside, it is scary to me when I am left home alone. Well, in full disclosure, Oscar is left home with me, but he doesn’t mind when muvver and fahver leave, because he is oblivious and knows not the danger that lurks! It’s like Here Comes The Sun when I finally see muvver or fahver again! It is kind of sweet that I love my humans so much.

It is important that I am adopted by somebody who is home most of the time. Help! I need somebody! Help! Not just anybody! I probably would be most comfortable in a quiet home without children and I would like to be someone’s one-and-only pet. A perfect companion for me might be a Beatles fan who likes to dance with me when my SM manifests in my circular phantom-guitar cycles.

Most importantly, I need to be adopted by someone who knows Syringomyelia, so that he/she can understand me in all of my complexity. It would not be fair to me, or my new furevah family, if you did not know how to care for my issues. But if you understand SM and have lots of love to give, I would wag my tail to meet you.
