Ivy in Mechanicsburg, PA

Here is Ivy with her new family…

There is an old song by Perry Como called “A You’re Adorable”. If you look up the lyrics, the song perfectly describes little Ivy. She is a sweet, petite tricolor girl who came to rescue from a commercial breeder in Western Pennsylvania. She is five years old, and is in perfect health.

Ivy was a bit cautious when she first came into rescue. Now, she is quietly confident. She enjoys going for rides, walks and meeting new people. She is also good when meeting other dogs, but likes to keep her distance.

Ivy has a funny, quirky personality. She loves fabric and has established a collection. It’s actually more of a hoard. Her favorite are socks and tea towels but will also collect dog blankets, dog stuffies and occasional articles of clothing if left on the floor. She’s not destructive, but just likes to lay on them. We speculate this is because Ivy was used as a breeding girl, and all of her puppies were taken away too early.

Ivy also has some guarding issues with her hoard and high value treats. She growls when the other dogs get near “her stuff” while she is laying on it. However, Ivy is not aggressive and is getting better. If she has something she shouldn’t, she will trade it for a nice dog cookie. We’ve also been working with just sitting beside her, petting and praising her and she is starting to give up “her stuff,” one item at a time.

Ivy has been spayed, microchipped, and given all her shots. Her health is excellent. When she came to rescue, she was overweight at 18 pounds. She is now down to 15.5 pounds, and could stand to lose another pound or two. She is housebroken, and has not had accidents as long as she is regularly taken outside. She really hates walking on wet grass like many other Cavaliers, but if her foster Mom goes out with her and has the a nice dog cookie, she will go out and quickly do her business. Ivy enjoys her yard, but a fenced in back yard is not a must. She would be fine with frequent walks.

Since Ivy has some guarding issues, it is best if she is placed as either the only dog or with a submissive dog and children over the age of twelve. She gets along fine with the resident cat and they frequently take naps together.

The best home for Ivy is one where her people are home most of the day. She loves attention and affection. She will sit on your lap and quietly close her eyes and just enjoy being petted and talked to. Her absolute favorite place is on the couch with her people. If you’re looking for a sweet, quiet loving girl, Ivy’s the one.
