JoJo in Castro Valley, CA
Meet JoJo, a male, Blenheim, dreamboat Cavalier who is everything you want in the breed. He’s healthy, happy, affectionate, playful, energetic and a snuggle bug!
We don’t know much about his life before coming into rescue though, just that he belonged to an older couple that didn’t realize the work that a puppy entails and still requires. This handsome boy is 1.5 years old, and was born 6/10/22.
JoJo is quite shy and anxious in new situations. Unfortunately, he’s fearful of the activity & noise of small children, so we are recommending that he goes to an adult only, calm home. Big, loud teenage activity might scare him, so if you have an older child that is calm, that would be fine. You’ll need to be a ‘dog experienced family’ that’s active and committed to training, that will also help to give him confidence.
With patience and training JoJo has the potential to be a wonderful little companion! He is very food motivated so will be easy to work with but he needs work learning how to listen and perform commands. Even though he is 1 1/2, you need to treat him like he’s a puppy, and you are starting from scratch in regards to basic commands. Puppy school would help and a consistent schedule. Speaking of food, this boy needs a slow bowl to keep from inhaling his meals! Regular walks will keep this boy in tip top shape.
JoJo hasn’t been trained, and he’s quite skittish in new situations, but he is smart and learned to use the dog door right away in his foster home. He has marked a bit with 2 other male Cavaliers around, but that should subside after the neuter, which he just received. He gets along with everybody (once he warms up) even snuggling with them. If he’s scared he will run to someone for comfort, he’s not picky in that regard. He takes a bit to open up in new situations and might tremble as he needs to learn to trust and be confident.
JoJo is great on a leash and loves walks. Car rides are a favorite, and he’s very well behaved in the car. He sleeps quietly in his crate but would snuggle in your big bed!
JoJo went to a Valentine’s meetup and he was scared at first in his new surroundings, with all the dogs. He allowed a couple strangers to hold him and “protect him” (which we loved) while he took his time trying to figure it out. By the end, he did choose to play with our Coordinators 3 year old dog, and they had a ball with the “ruff and tumble” but it took a couple hours. We feel that a home with another young playmate for him to bond with and learn from would be excellent for him. He would also probably be OK in an adult only home without any pets, but ideally a fur friend would be his first choice so he can play. He has been cat tested and did snuggle with that cat, so it really depends on if your cat wants to snuggle with him!
