Katie in San Antonio, TX

Katie is a Cavalier mix whose favorite place is right next to her human. Katie is about 9 years old and came to us through another rescue group after her owner had passed away.

True to her Cavalier nature, Katie prefers to spend all day next to her foster mom. Katie loves being outside, especially since the weather has been cooler. However, she is not very fond of grass. Katie will quickly run into the grass only to go potty; and then sit on the porch and eagerly watch for squirrels. Katie also loves walking on the sidewalk. Even though she is an older pup she happily keeps up with her younger foster siblings. Most of the day Katie prefers to spend indoors sleeping near her foster mom. Katie believes there should be a dog bed in every room of the house, but she will settle for a pillow or blanket. Katie sleeps through the entire night. Further, she always goes outside to go potty.

Katie is spayed and up to date with her vaccinations. She also had a dental in September of this year. Katie has small legs and only weighs 13 pounds. Katie is a mature lady with a few chronic health problems. Unfortunately, Katie is deaf and currently has iron deficiency anemia and is on an antibiotic and iron supplement. She will require additional blood tests on December 1 to determine if the anemia is under control. It is possible she will need to be on an iron supplement for the remainder of her life. Katie also has allergies which require a daily allergy pill. Finally, Katie has a slight heart murmur, requiring no medications at this time.

Since Katie is deaf it can be difficult to get her attention or call her to you. Fortunately, since she is a velcro dog Katie rarely needs to “come.” Katie is not aggressive with her foster siblings but does not like to be startled. For this reason Katie would do best as the only dog in the home, or with another older, calm dog. Katie will bark at other dogs on walks and at squirrels in the backyard. Overall though, Katie is a very quiet dog.

Katie’s perfect home is quiet with little commotion and someone home most of the day to cuddle with on the couch. While Katie does not require a big backyard she would like a porch for squirrel gazing. Katie’s foster mom thinks she would do equally well devoted to one person or sharing her love with a small, quiet family!
