Lucy in Warren, OH

Lucy, a sweet 5-year-old Blenheim Cavalier, came to rescue with her 4 puppies when a commercial breeder had bred more puppies than they could sell, so CR-USA was called to take Lucy and her pups. She has been very skittish since coming to her foster family’s home. She slowly learned to trust enough to eat out of her foster mom’s hand and to sniff her and lick her hand. She quickly learned the name she was given while in foster care and to come when called.

She was very protective of her puppies, wanting to always know where they were and tolerating their rough play, pulling her ears and jumping on her. She just seemed to take whatever it was they decided to do to her in stride. At first, she watched foster mom when she picked up the puppies, making sure she could trust her, but after a week, Lucy trusted that foster mom was okay to hold and play with her pups and no longer watched guard. She was very happy running and playing with her puppies as if she were a pup herself. Lucy is a very gentle quiet dog who loves to just run in the yard, and is happy, wagging her tail as she runs through the yard.

She is healthy, except for a minor murmur, requiring no medication currently. She has been spayed and has had a dental, losing several teeth in the process. She is up to date on all vaccines and is heartworm negative. She is up to date with flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.

Lucy would do best with someone with experience with dogs who need to learn to trust. She is slowly learning to be comfortable being touched and petted. She is friendly with new people of all ages, coming up to sniff them and greet them. Although she has been on a leash a few times, she has not yet learned to walk for very long but loves to play in the yard, running and chewing her Nylabone or playing with an interactive toy filled with treats. Once on a person’s lap, she will stay there and enjoys being petted. She also wants to know where her human is at all times. Lucy is not a barker. She barks on occasion when excited about receiving a treat, but other than that, she is a very quiet dog. She is a gentle dog, but has a fear of being touched, running away if a hand is extended in her direction.

Lucy loves to run and requires a home with a fenced yard. She would do best with a home with at least one other dog with whom she could play. Although she has the energy to run, she quiets down once in the house and rests in her crate. She sleeps in her crate at night as well.
