Melanie in Martinez, CA

Melanie is our “golden girl”, born 7/14/2012. This precious Blenheim Cavalier is on the larger side of our breed, weighing in at 27 lbs. Melanie owns our heart. She is the most precious thing ever. She was surrendered due to the family getting new cats which absolutely terrified Miss Melanie, so we are looking for a cat free home for our girl, no not even outside cats will be considered.

Melanie was being kept outdoors most of her days, and she had been flea infested many times, which left our precious girl with scars and bumps. Melanie has zero tolerance to fleas and neither do we! She had been shaved bald prior to coming to rescue because she was very matted, but her fluff is starting to grow back slowly and we cannot wait to see her beautiful coat come in.

Melanie is as sweet as a peach and loves being near her people. We were told she doesn’t like other dogs either, but she has no problem allowing her foster sister to snuggle! She is currently in a home with 3 other dogs of all shapes and sizes and mostly ignores them, but is happy to snuggle with her foster sis bulldog, who is kind of obsessed with Melanie and curls up next to her. She can be a bit shy at first meeting, but warms up very quickly with a few gentle pets.

She does enjoy basking in the sun on her Foster Mom’s outdoor furniture, but she wants to be an “inside only dog” and never left outside for long periods of time again. We are gonna make sure she gets to do just that! Her couch potato days are here! She would prefer to be on the sofa or bed with you, as close as you will let her be.  She would love to find a new human spooner, yes, she wants to spoon you!

When left alone, she is perfect, she has shown zero bad behavior, other than an occasional bark.

She is potty trained (even uses the doggy door at foster mom’s house like a perfect angel).  She does the cutest play bow and bark when she proudly comes in from going potty, or when she is ready for meal time.

Melanie has a grade 4 heart murmur, and requires no medication at this time. Our trusted Veterinarian says her heart is compensating which is amazing. Go Melanie! She will need cardiac evaluations in the future so you know if and when she does need heart meds.

This gal still has a lot of pep in her step. She loves walks and is great on leash. She sometimes decides to bark randomly, telling the world how much she loves it, but otherwise, she is very easy on leash.

Melanie is mostly deaf, although she does hear some tones like dog barks. She comes with some old lady lumps and bumps, but the doctor said they just give her character and there’s no there’s reason to worry about them. When her fur grows back, you’ll never notice.  Melanie just had a dental where they removed 4  teeth, so she is feeling like a new woman now with a new glow!
