Pancake in Carterville, IL

JUST ADOPTED!

Meet Pancake! Pancake is a sweet Blenheim Cavalier puppy who was born March 15, 2023.

Pancake was released by her breeder to a guardian angel vet tech at seven weeks because she had Swimmer Syndrome and was unable to walk. After two months of rehabilitation with her very special guardian angel, Pancake went to live with her foster family. Because of the extensive physical therapy she had, she is now a normal puppy who can run, jump and climb stairs easily. Her foster family says they would never know she was unable to walk. She is definitely making up for lost time!

Pancake is a Velcro dog. She wants to be with people all the time, but is an equal opportunity dog and moves easily between the members of her foster family. She is sweet and cuddly and loves lying on laps. She does not like to be left alone, and will protest loudly when she is not happy in her crate. She is an energetic, lively puppy and loves to play with toys and the three dogs in her foster family.

Pancake is a smart puppy, and she has been quick to mimic the other dogs’ behavior. This, and the fact that she loves food, make her easy to train. She has learned that her crate means food, so she runs in there for meals and treats or for a stuffed Kong toy when she needs to stay a while.

She still does not like staying in her crate for long periods and will protest by barking and howling, but often settles down and falls asleep after a while. She would prefer to sleep in the big bed with her forever family. She sleeps well and does not have any accidents at night.

She is a bit of a daredevil and has jumped off the back of the couch a couple of times. She also is still chewing on things, so she needs a space that is puppy-proofed, and she needs to be watched carefully.

Pancake is still figuring out house training, and must be taken out frequently on a schedule. Her foster mother sets a timer, and is gradually increasing the time between visits outside. She has recently started ringing the bell to go outside! She is one smart cookie!

Pancake is looking for a family where someone is home most of the time to monitor her behavior, and take her outside for potty-training. A securely fenced-in yard will give her plenty of room to run off her excess energy. She would enjoy having another dog to play with.

Pancake is up to date on her vaccines and on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Her forever family will be required, and must agree, to have her spayed at about 9 or 10 months. She is currently too young for that procedure.
