Parker in Nashville, TN
Parker is an 8-10 year old Cavalier who is ready for a quiet, low key life after spending his life in a puppy mill. Parker is very reserved and enjoys his newfound loves of hanging out on the sofa, resting his chin gently on his person’s arm.
He sleeps in his crate all night and waits to be let out in the morning. His crate is also his safe place, and he will hang out in there if his environment gets too loud or busy. He doesn’t care for toys or chews much, but has decided that treats are awesome! Parker will bark when another dog is carried or picked up and still freezes when he is picked up, but is making amazing progress at learning to trust humans.
Parker would do best in a home with older, gentle children (aged ten or older), or a home without children. He is equally happy in a cozy bed in his crate or snoozing on the sofa when his foster family is out. Parker prefers the energy of the calmest dogs in his foster home, and doesn’t mind the very relaxed cats in the home. He will on occasion bark at the cat, but no signs of prey drive or chasing.
Parker adores being outside taking in the sights and sounds, and would enjoy a yard to patrol. He’s picked up learning to potty outside quickly, he most often stands at the back door to be let out. He cannot jump onto higher furniture, and will not jump down on his own off “the big bed”, but uses steps to get himself up and down, or asks to be lifted up with his soulful eyes and gentle tail wag.
Parker went on his first road trip recently, and was a wonderful car rider in his carseat, and great at pottying on a leash at stops. He transitioned to the new environment with ease and looks for cues from his humans often, so an experienced dog owner would be the best fit. Parker would love to join you in the quiet life of his golden years, his foster mom thinks he would be a wonderful co-working dog for a low-energy office, or enjoy window-watching the day away with a furry pal at home.
