Petunia in Okemos, MI

Petunia, a puppy mill surrender, is an adorable, sweet and shy 7-year old Ruby girl. Petunia is now ready to embark on a journey of trust, joy, and a forever bond with a caring adopter. She is a resilient and sweet soul who yearns to be close to her humans. Petunia struggles to jump onto furniture and mostly uses the doggy stairs to get to her favorite place on the couch next to her people.

Health-wise, Petunia is up to date on all her shots, spayed and the most immediate dental care has been tended to. Her resilient spirit is evident – no heart murmur was detected but she does have cataracts in her right eye which don’t seem to bother her. She’s currently being fed canned food to accommodate her dental needs. She has had many teeth pulled and the vet said she may lose more.

Walking on a leash is a new adventure for Petunia, and she’s learning the ropes one step at a time. Her new family will need patience, building a bond of trust with her is important. We’ve made good progress training her to accept gentle touches as a show of affection, but you’ll play a crucial role in helping her blossom into a confident, affectionate pup.  She isn’t quite a lap dog yet, but she will snuggle up against your legs.

Petunia is highly motivated by food, she is always looking for something to eat, this also includes anything she can find in the yard, the floor or anyplace she can reach.

Petunia’s canine companion, a resident Cavalier, has been an incredible influence on her. A home with a friendly dog buddy would be a perfect match for Petunia to help show her the ropes and give her confidence. She shows no fear of the larger neighbor dogs that surround us. Petunia is mostly housebroken, we let her out on a regular basis in addition to confining her to spaces we are in to prevent accidents.

Petunia would prefer a home without small children. She appreciates calm and steady environments where she can truly feel secure. She spends much of the day in a donut bed under her foster mom’s work desk napping. Currently, Petunia has a crate in the living room that she sleeps in with the door open to a penned in area.  However, whether it’s in her cozy donut bed, her crate, or even the big bed, she would love to share the same room with you at night.

Petunia would love a home with someone home during the day and a dog friend to help her feel at home.  She loves to roll around on the kitchen floor while you work in case you drop some tasty food. She will become your shadow, following her people and dog companion wherever they go.
