Prince Charming in Chesterfield, MO

Here is the pup with his new family…

Prince Charming, a very handsome Tricolor Cavalier King Charles 3 month old puppy born 11/18/22. He is looking for his true, everlasting loving family. He doesn’t need a castle with towers but he does need loyal, loving and playful subjects. He promises to give them more love and entertainment than they could ever imagine!

Prince Charming has a perfect report card from the vet. His heart, knees and baby teeth are healthy, thus, no medications. The vet estimates his mature weight will be about 16 pounds. He is up to date on his vaccinations and on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. His forever family will be required and must agree to have him neutered at about 9 or 10 months. He is currently too young for that procedure. 

His exuberant personality is displayed in interactions with the older pups and the other foster puppy in the household. He loves children, adults, and is even learning not to try to play with the cats! Playing tug of war, fetch and just chewing on toys is a favorite past time.

As all puppies he is curious and will seek out the strangest things for his teething (like a wicker basket or leg of a chair!). Providing safe teething alternatives is necessary. Close supervision and redirecting are paramount requirements as well as puppy proofing the house and yard.

Prince Charming will need a safe yard due to his current mere 6 pound weight. A smaller enclosed (metal portable fencing) area or on a leash is the best practice while he is still so young and small. Such a tiny one can escape or have a stray owl, hawk etc prey on him. He should be watched at all times.

Baby gates are a must in the house to restrict his wandering. A folding metal pen area (5’x3′) is set up in the kitchen as his playpen when family leaves the house or not directly supervised by an adult. Potty pads and a comfy dog bed are in the playpen also with a metal bowl of water.

Prince Charming starts his day about 6 am having breakfast, midday small meal and dinner about 5pm. He eats Fromm kibble puppy food. He likes string beans, rice and pumpkin also. He is given frequent opportunities to potty….every hour and after meals he goes outside within 15 minutes. Potty 101 is an ongoing process for awhile. Patience and positive reinforcement is primary for the desired behavior to be learned.

As most puppies he has spurts of energy then crashes for a recharging nap. At night he sleeps in the bedroom in a dog bed next to his foster Mom’s side of the bed. A gate keeps him in that area and safe while he sleeps quietly and comfortably all night. A potty pad is put next to him in case of nighttime need.

He likes car rides and requires a well fitted harness and elevated car seat (he likes to see the world go by!). The harness would be securely attached to the car seat. When using a leash it should always be attached to his harness NOT collar. He is currently learning the leash and other basic commands.
