Prince Charming in Waterford, MI

Here is Prince with his new family…

Prince is an amazing dog! He came into rescue after a brief stay in a home that had a dog who could not tolerate another dog. Previously, Prince had spent his 8 years in a puppy mill.  This handsome boy was born July 14, 2014.

You wouldn’t know it from his connecting nature. He has never met a person he doesn’t like. He just stares into the eyes of anyone petting him.

Prince came into rescue quite thin, but since arriving at his foster home we have been able to put some weight on him. He is big boned and now weighs 23 lbs. He is very food motivated.

When he first joined our foster family of three other dogs, he had a few negative interactions with one of our Cavaliers. This may have been because he had been housed with the aggressive dog before he came into rescue. After a few corrections and a higher comfort level in our home, things are much better. He is smart and gets on the sofa to look over the back to watch his foster mom prepare his food.

He is crate trained, loves car rides, is micro-chipped and up to date on his shots. Although he has a heart murmur, it is very mild. No medication is needed at this time, but his heart should be regularly monitored by a vet. Prince has had several teeth pulled; but that doesn’t stop this boy from chowing down his kibble food.

You won’t have to worry when Prince is on duty. He has ears like a hawk. He will bark once and wait for your response. He stops barking once you tell him it is OK. At night, he jumps on the bed for a momentary goodnight love and then goes into his dog bed on the floor for the night. He does enjoy a good snore.

On Halloween, Prince went outside with his foster family mom to meet the trick-or-treating children. He would patiently sit and enjoy the children petting him. Although he is good with calm children, he might be frightened by extremely young and exuberant little people.

Prince joins the other Cavaliers in doing his business in the fenced yard. He does bark to let me know when it’s time to go outside. We recommend he wear a belly band when in new surroundings. He needs more practice walking on a leash, but would enjoy walks to meet new people.

Prince would love a fur-ever home with someone home during the day for potty breaks and a comfy lap for snuggling! He does well with calm children, but does not like cats. He would be happiest in a home where he is the only dog and can get the full attention of the people in his family. A fenced yard and short walks would also be important. He will settle in best at a fur-ever home with a routine and moderate activity levels. Anyone bringing Prince Charming and his constantly wagging tail into their home would be fortunate, indeed!
