Riley in Port Orchard, WA
Here’s a picture of Riley with his new family…

Riley is a 6-year-old Blenheim Cavalier who came from a loving home and ultimately into the rescue due to a change in his previous family’s situation. Riley is a very affectionate boy, who wants nothing more than to be loved and to be a part of every aspect of his family’s activities.

Riley enjoys his toys, from chasing a ball around the house to affectionately playing with his stuffies. Riley loves to lounge on the couch or chair alongside his “person” while they are watching TV, reading or even napping. Riley would love to share the bed with his owner but will also be content to sleep on the couch with his foster mates. He enjoys exploring the outdoors, eventually settling in a comfy spot to absorb the sunshine or snuggling alongside or on an available lap.

In his previous home, Riley was never kennel trained but instead would utilize a dog playpen when the owner would be away. Riley is confirmed to be house trained; he has never had an accident in the house since coming to his foster’s home and is good to be left free in the home for short periods of time.

It would be best to have a fenced yard for Riley to contain his explorations. Riley enjoys going on walks and sniffing everything that he encounters. He can at times get overly stimulated with dogs he encounters on the walks, so mindful introductions to dogs he is not familiar with is best. He is improving on his leash etiquette; he will pull at times as there is so much he wants to explore, therefore, he would benefit from continued leash training.

Riley was an only dog in his previous home and has adjusted nicely to his foster home’s two Blenheim Cavaliers (3-year-old male and 13-year-old female). Being born during the COVID period, Riley did not participate in formal training sessions, however, he does respond to sit, stay, come and gentle (when accepting treats by hand) commands. Riley is very eager to please his foster parents and would thus benefit and enjoy further training. In his foster home, Riley has enjoyed and is trusted to interact with his foster family’s three dog-wise grandchildren ranging in age from 2-years-old to 8-years-old.

Riley weighs 20 pounds, and he’s been cleared of any medical issues in his recent vet visit.

Riley ideal new home would be one where the owners are home the majority of the time and would include Riley in all their activities. Ideally, Riley would love to be the one and only for his new home, but would do fine with a undomineering dog mate. Due to the previous owner’s statement that Riley had a negative encounter with a cat, and the fact that he has not be exposed to a cat in his foster care, a cat free home is required.
