Rosie in Derby Line, VT

Are you looking for a couch companion? Rosie is a beautiful, seven-year-old Ruby girl whose favorite pastime is snoring loudly and napping often. Rosie will snooze through the doorbell ringing, dogs barking and even the vacuum nearby. Rosie was born on December 21, 2016. She was purchased as a puppy and went to a loving home where she spent most of her life spoiled and adored. Unfortunately, her loving owner passed away.  Rosie went to live with a family member who spoiled and adored her just the same way. She spent a year in her new home until her world was turned upside-down once again when her second owner passed away. Rosie has experienced multiple losses in her life. She is looking to spend the rest of her years in a loving home where she can feel spoiled and adored once again.

When Rosie arrived at her foster home, she was timid to explore her surroundings and did not have an appetite. Rosie would sit on her leash and snooze on and off throughout the day. It was clear Rosie was missing her family. Over the first few days Rosie began to discover more areas of her foster home but only when guided on leash or carried by her foster mom. Rosie now confidently travels through her foster home as she pleases and licks her bowls clean during breakfast and dinner.

Rosie doesn’t know a stranger. She is the social butterfly at her foster home barbeques, greeting all guests with a tail wag and a large Cavalier smile. Rosie loves to walk in the grass and does very well on a leash. Since Rosie is deaf it is crucial for her safety that she is always on a leash when a fenced-in yard is not available.

She is house-trained and does well when her foster family leaves for short trips; she either naps on the couch or in a crate. Rosie is treat-motivated and wants to learn. She will sit and lay down with hand signals. It will be beneficial for her if her new family is willing to research how to train a deaf dog. Rosie’s foster mom is confident that she has many more tricks to share!

Rosie lives with two small dogs, a cat and two human sisters, ages 4 and 8. She has done well in her foster home, and tolerates both the cat and the younger dog, but prefers her space.

Rosie will do best in a home with an older dog of the same size and temperament, but she could also be happy as the only dog. Rosie loves her human foster sisters and would love a home with older, gentle children who understand the importance of keeping Rosie safe as she cannot hear.

She loves to snuggle up on blankets, the couch, a bed, anywhere she can get comfortable. She sleeps on a dog bed in her foster mom’s bedroom. She would prefer to be closer to her family and has tried multiple times to jump up onto the bed with minimal success. She will happily fall asleep on the floor.

Rosie is spayed, up-to-date on immunizations and heart-worm/flea and tick prevention. She is heart/lung clear, and deaf.  While in rescue she had a dental cleaning and was also microchipped.
