Sam in Los Altos Hills, CA

Hi! My name is Sam. I’m a lov’in, gorgeous, 8 year old Blenheim Cavalier with a beautiful thick coat of fur. I’m a really happy, quiet, 22 lb. guy with my tail constantly wagging despite being essentially blind. I was not born blind, I have a condition called dry eyes that were not properly cared for most of my life. Now I take three different eye drops, three times a day and will need this treatment for the rest of my life. This provides me with stable tear production so I’m not in any pain. I also have a slight but stable heart mummer and I’m otherwise a healthy guy. I’ve had a dental cleaning while in foster care so now I have a great smile. I’m neutered, my shots are up-to-date, and I’m microchipped. I love to eat and know where the water and food dish are!

I have a chill personality making me a perfect fit for lying around and sleeping on laps. I know where my people and my fellow Cavalier are in the house, and follow them around even though I only can see shapes and sunlight and darkness. I can navigate around the house and can climb doggy stairs to get on to bed with my human friends. I love to sleep in my crate and I’ve never barked or cried since I’ve been with my foster family. Can you believe that! Yep, I’m a mellow, happy guy with a wagging tail.

I go on two, one mile walks per day, but would not win the 100 yard dash competition, I’m into ambling. I like meeting people and dogs and I’m friendly with everybody. There are no cats or kids in my foster home, so I’m not sure how I will do around them. Based on my personality, I think I’d do ok since I don’t chase or am the nervous type.

I’m house trained. My foster mom takes me outside every 3-4 hours. I’d love to have a fenced back yard to sniff and explore. I have a veranda which I love to hang out in the sun on. I will need a fenced yard, no pools please or other objects I might have a problem navigating.

I need a family that’s home most of the time who will enjoy hanging out with me and loving on me, and who will give me eye drops three times per day. It will be beneficial if you have had experience with a sight impaired dog like me. I will need guidance at first to teach me the ropes, I mean stairs and where the chairs and couch are etc. I learn really, really fast and will become somewhat self-sufficient. I’m guided and receive comfort from hearing your voice.
