Samantha in Laguna Hills, CA
Meet Samantha—a bewitchingly charming tricolor Cavalier who will capture your heart with her delightful personality!
Rescued from a commercial breeder without accurate documentation, this petite, affectionate girl (also fondly called Sam or Sammi) is approximately three years old. Despite not receiving much prior human interaction, she has blossomed with attentive care while in her foster home.
Samantha thrives alongside her three Cavalier foster siblings, and immediately found comfort in their company. She’s discovered toys, cozy dog beds, and backyard adventures with her pals.
She’s gradually gaining confidence while learning leash walking. Smart and eager to please, Samantha has picked up basic commands, especially when treats are involved. Positive reinforcement will continue to help her understand expected behaviors.
The outside world is new for Samantha, and she approaches other dogs and humans with a gentle curiosity. Quick movements from small children can startle her, and she’s a bit reserved in unfamiliar environments. She can be initially timid, needing time to warm up to new people and places. Once she trusts you, you’ll have a loyal companion.
Potty training is going well as she follows her furry friends outside. Samantha has just started to alert when she needs to “go.” Regular “potty breaks” every few hours, especially before bed, have been beneficial. She happily sleeps in her crate or dog bed at night, and her mornings begin with a cute little army crawl as she stretches to greet the day.
During her time in rescue, Samantha was spayed, microchipped, brought up to date on her vaccinations. She had a dental exam which included the extraction of seven teeth.
Samantha has seen an eye specialist and was diagnosed with Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca, otherwise known as KCS or “Dry Eye,” a condition caused by insufficient tear production. Samantha will require life-long twice-daily eye drops to control symptoms and keep her comfortable. The cost is approximately $70 every six weeks. She will need a re-check exam in four months.
Samantha came into rescue underweight and has now gained over two pounds, which puts her at an ideal weight. Meals are a highlight of Samantha’s day, and her love for food serves as great motivation. She’ll even vocalize her excitement, dancing around to encourage you to hurry the meal preparation.
Samantha’s favorite pastime is snuggling with the other dogs. While she follows her humans around the house and keeps them within sight, it’s her furry pals who bring her true comfort and joy.
Samantha has mild separation anxiety and is learning what is appropriate to chew and what is best left alone – namely corners of rugs. A family where she will have a similar size, like-minded canine companion to become her best friend is what Samantha truly wants and needs.
