Sarah in Parsipanny, NJ

JUST ADOPTED!

Here is Sarah with her new family…

Hello! My name is Sarah. I am five years old and recently came into rescue after being retired from breeding. I have adjusted really well to life as a house pet. It took me no time at all to figure out how to walk on a leash, use a dog door, and lounge on the couch. I really love the couch, and would love to snuggle on it. I love to snuggle with blankets, burying myself in a pile of pillows if available (I knock them all off the couch trying to get under them all).

I have been working really hard on losing weight. I came to rescue at 17 lbs and now weigh 14 but could lose 1 more lb, or so I’m told. My foster mom makes me walk really far and fast. My foster brothers are lunatics on leash, but I am very demure and mindful when out in the world. I would love to find a home that will commit to helping me to continue to stay fit and keep me walking distance every day. I am interested in other people and animals on walks, but I am still too shy to introduce myself outside of my foster mom’s house.

I still get a little overwhelmed when there is a lot of noise, so I would much prefer a home that isn’t too hectic. Loud noises startle me and fast movement is a lot for me. I am very shy when I meet new people, but I can warm up to them with time and patience. I didn’t have a lot of exposure to people in my past life, but I’m working hard to enjoy everyone.

I love the company of other animals. I am staying in a house with several dogs, cats, and a bird. I get along with everyone, and I can hold my own if someone gets fresh with me. I don’t like being away from my foster mom or my foster brothers, so having some other dogs around in my new home would be great.

Once I am comfortable with my people, I am a totally different dog. I am very bossy and vocal, and my foster mom says I am hilarious. I spin in circles while woofing when I am excited about something. If I think it is time to eat, I will make sure everyone knows. When my foster mom gets home from work, I serenade her with the song of my people. If someone walks by the front door, I am the first one to notice and let everyone else know. My foster mom says I am super smart and I figure things out really fast, but some things I still struggle with. Stairs have been a challenge, and some are overwhelming for me. Others I have no issue with. I’m a work in progress.

I am crate trained and dog door trained. I haven’t had an accident in my foster mom’s house since I learned how to work the dog door. I am only crated overnight and only because rescue would prefer that I know how to do it in case my new family doesn’t want me sleeping in bed. I have not been quite so well mannered in other places I have been left unattended, so my new family will need to teach me the rules in their home when I get there.

I am up to date on my vaccines, and was recently spayed and had my teeth cleaned. My foster mom brushes my teeth every morning, and my new family will need to do the same to keep my remaining teeth healthy and keep them in my mouth. I am currently on a prescription diet because I was having some issues with regurgitation when I first came into rescue. My foster mom is going to try to transition me to a sensitive skin and stomach diet that you can get in a pet store so you won’t have to pay for a prescription food.
