Simon in Mechanicsburg, PA

Meet Simon, a sweet 8 lb black-and-tan puppy who charms everyone he meets. Simon was born on a breeding farm. He and his littermates were attacked by their mother at a very early age. Simon had bite wounds to his head but he survived thanks to a local Good Samaritan who took him in and nursed him back to good health before releasing him to rescue.

While in in the care of rescue, Simon was examined by an ophthalmologist. We learned that he was born with micro-ophthalmia in his left eye and has very limited vision in that eye. He also had dermoid cysts on both his eyes that caused his skin to turn in and his hair to rub on his eyeballs causing irritation. Surgery was done and the cysts removed. He has made a complete recovery and just requires over the counter eyedrops twice a day to keep everything in tip top shape. While his vision in the left eye will never improve, his right eye is just fine. His overall health is excellent with no heart murmur or joint issues, and he is up to date with his immunizations. Simon will need to be neutered at an appropriate age.

Since coming to foster care, he has just thrived. He loves playing with his toys and the other dogs in his foster home. Tug of war is his favorite game. He also enjoys exploring his yard. His specialty is garden re-design and excavations. In other words, he carries sticks and leaves around to different parts of the yard and shreds them. He is also an expert hole digger, so if you want an impeccable yard, Simon is not your guy.

He is 6 months old and will probably stay a little smaller than normal, but Simon thinks he is a big dog. He loves everyone and everything, kids, adults and dogs big and small. He enjoys riding in the car, going places and taking walks. He has displayed some food aggression, so its best if he is fed in a crate with a go-slow bowl. His nickname is The Tasmanian Devil because he will dive into his food, spin in circles around the bowl and inhale his food in about 20 seconds. He is crate trained and doing very well with his housebreaking. Sometimes he forgets to go potty, especially first thing in the morning because he is eager to get breakfast, so he needs to be monitored to make sure he goes potty. Simon has been known to eat poop so it’s important to clean up right away after Simon does his business.

Other than eating or playing, his favorite thing is snuggling with his foster mom. He absolutely loves his people and is happiest when picked up and held like a baby.

The ideal home for Simon is one with another playful dog and someone home most of the time. A backyard would also be great for him. Since he is so small, a home with children over the age of 6 would be best. Simon is a real sweetheart. Everyone who meets him falls in love. He is a special little puppy who loves his people wholeheartedly and deserves a forever home that feels the same way about him.
