Simon in Mt. Airy, MD

Update 1-27-23: We’ve received several promising applications for this pup so aren’t taking more for now. Thank you!

Simon says that he is ready to meet his new family! He is 11 months old, born 2/13/22, and would love to share his first birthday next month with his forever family. Simon came to Cavalier Rescue USA from his owner who knew that he was spending too many hours at home alone during the day and that he needed more opportunities and space to be active. Simon has done well with his foster family and has learned a lot while getting to go everywhere that they go. He just took a trip to the beach to celebrate the New Year!

Simon is larger than a typical Cavalier, he is a tall boy and he weighs about 28 pounds. He is very playful and needs an active family. He would do well with a family who is home often and plans to take him places frequently or a family with another playful dog(s). He has done well with his two Cavalier foster sisters; however, he ALWAYS wants to play so he will need a dog sibling who does well with playful puppy energy.

Simon is looking for a family with previous dog experience because he still needs some work with socialization. He is cautious when meeting new people and he often barks because he is unsure of people that he does not know. As a puppy working on socialization, he will occasionally try to nip if he is put into an uncomfortable situation. He has worked very hard on this with his foster family and he has made a lot of improvement. Now he needs a family who is willing to take time to gain his trust and continue moving forward with his training and socialization. He has bonded well with every member of his foster family. He is a quick learner and he is VERY food motivated!

He is completely house trained and crate trained. He has always had long daily walks and does extremely well walking on a leash. He is reactive when passing other dogs, but his foster family is using clicker training and he is improving!  A family with a daily walking routine would definitely be a plus for Simon. He has also learned that he LOVES a big backyard to run and chase his ball.

He was recently neutered and is overall a healthy boy. However, his future family will need to be willing to monitor his skin. While in foster care he was treated for a dermatitis infection with antibiotics and medicated baths. His skin has improved, however since he is still a puppy this is something that will need to be monitored as there is a chance that it could be allergy related.

Simon’s foster family has really enjoyed having him and is excited to help him find the perfect family!
