Thaddeus in Selah, WA
Thad, Thaddy, or Sir Thad the Rad, is a handsome tri-color boy who turns two this November. He received a clean bill of health from the veterinarian and is ready to settle in with his forever family. He was surrendered to Cavalier Rescue USA for his safety when another dog in his home became aggressive toward him. Despite that, he gets along great with his doggy foster sisters and would likely do well in a home with another dog.
Thaddy is the sweetest boy you’ll ever meet. He adores people and his whole body wiggles with excitement when he greets you. He’s wonderful with children and loves everyone he meets. He still has a lot of puppy playfulness in him and loves chasing a ball around or wrestling his rubber chicken. He weighs 22 lbs and has an athletic build with long legs.
After a good play session, he’s happy to curl up on the couch and snuggle the day away. He’s hoping to find someone who wants a buddy to take on adventures and road trips, and not just leave him in his crate all day. He just wants to be part of the family. He might even make a great agility dog or 4-H project, as he is both intelligent and athletic. He’s also incredibly food-motivated, so training should be a breeze!
Thaddy is dependably house broken and used doggie doorbells in his previous home. He also does well in a crate but will protest a bit initially. He’s been sleeping in his crate at night, but his foster family knows he’d much prefer to be snuggled up under the covers at someone’s feet like he did in his previous home.
Thaddeus does have a few manners issues his foster family is working on. His leash walking needs a little work as he currently pulls quite a bit, but with a harness he does better. Thaddy has some separation anxiety and cries when he can’t find or access his people, sometimes if they’re simply in the bathroom or stepped into the garage.
Thaddy can be a bit mischievous, partaking in activities such as jumping on the counter and table. He responds when you tell him “no,” but forgets almost immediately and will do it again. He also has door-darting tendencies, so having a system in place so he doesn’t get out the front door is imperative. In his previous home, he slipped out a few times and didn’t respond when called as he was having too much fun on his adventure. Currently, his foster family exits the house through the garage so if he does get by, he’s still contained. Due to his exceptional jumping skills, he can easily scale baby gates and x-pens.
He’d love a home where someone is with him most of the day. Also, due to his athleticism and adventurous heart, he has a tendency to venture off. A securely fenced yard is a must for this guy. Finally, Thaddy aspires to keep everyone safe by being an excellent watchdog. Although anyone inside the house is an immediate best friend, anyone outside is stranger-danger. Thaddy is a very vocal dog, so an apartment setting would not be an ideal fit.
In addition to a securely fenced yard and someone able to spend most of the day with him, his owners also need some dog training experience and be willing to continue the work his foster family has started.
