Winston in Rochester, NY

Who knows what Winston sees when he snaps at the air? Maybe sparkles or pixies or fireflies? Whatever it is, it just makes this wonderful boy even more special.

Winston is a seven-year-old tricolor male Cavalier with Flycatchers Syndrome. That’s a rare neurological symptom that causes a dog to have episodes of hallucinations where they try to catch imaginary flies buzzing around their head. It’s not curable but can be controlled with daily medication.

According to his foster mom, “Winston is fantastic. He is such a good boy, so respectful and gentle.” She hasn’t seen even a hint of aggression from him, even though her Cavalier “gets after him”. Winston and his two foster brothers all sleep together at night in her bedroom with the door closed and there have not been any problems. He is getting used to the cat and the chickens and doesn’t seem bothered by their 3-year-old grandson.

Winston’s owner had health issues but loved him dearly. He’s house-trained, sweet, loyal and well mannered. A happy guy who sometimes is just a little off. We prefer to think he just has a very vivid imagination. Winston would do best as a companion dog or an only dog with a calm, but active family.
