Zoey in Coatesville, PA

JUST ADOPTED!

Hello world, meet Zoey! Zoey is a 6 month old incredibly loving little tricolor girl born 05/10/2025!

She absolutely loves playing with her toys and fetch is a daily favorite. Most loved pastimes include running with her foster siblings in the backyard, chewing a safe chew, playing with toys, and snuggling on her foster mom’s lap. Zoey came into rescue when her medical needs became too much for her family to handle.

Zoey is a very special little girl with a condition called Episodic Falling Syndrome. This means her muscles sometimes tense up and prevent her from being able to walk or move. She’s on medication and doing very well. Her foster parents have figured out how to best help her during an episode to reduce the length and intensity of the episodes and they will go over that with her new family. When an episode does come on she likes to be picked up and brought to a soft place like a bed or couch and snuggled. She likes to be reassured, pet soothingly, and told she’s safe. A cold water bottle that she can snuggle against also helps her as she can overheat during an episode due to her muscles tensing. Her foster parents also sometimes use a syringe to medicate her during an episode which tends to work very quickly. She needs support, love, quiet, and time during her episodes and once out of them she is right back up and ready to play! Sometimes she does like to snuggle and sleep after an episode. Zoey will need regular follow ups with a neurologist. The condition could get better or could get worse over time, they just don’t know.

She currently takes two different daily  medications, clonazepam and trazodone and the neurologist is considering adding in a third intranasal medication. One of the daily meds is every 6 hours and one is every 8 hours. The neurologist has a schedule figured out so that overnight she can usually go about 8 hours instead of 6 allowing her foster parents to get a full 8 hours of sleep some nights, though they prefer to give it every 6 hours overnight to try and avoid an episode. The daily medications are $24.00  and $33.00  a month.

Zoey needs a forever family who can commit to her medication schedule and special needs and who has experience with dogs with medical needs. Zoey will need to be spayed when she is older. She currently weighs a little over 11 lbs and is up to date on her vaccines and is microchipped.

She is an adventurous little companion very eager to explore! She loves everyone she meets and can’t get enough treats. Training is in her daily routine and she thrives with it.

Zoey would do very well as an only dog where she could absorb all the love and attention or with another relaxed, playful, puppy-tolerant dog.

A calm, relaxed environment that is not overstimulating would be best for Zoey. Zoey does very well when left alone in her safe space for napping but gets anxious in a crate. Her foster mom will explain her safe space set up. Napping is also essential for Zoey’s growth and development as well as helping to minimize her episodes. Her foster parents have her on a napping schedule currently that works very well for her so her new family will need to maintain that.

Zoey is very smart. She learns quickly and is eager to please. So far she also knows, sit, come, down, touch, she’s working on drop, and is learning how to do some agility! She is working on potty training and does well when she’s kept to her schedule. A family familiar with puppies and puppy training is ideal as they will need to continue her positive reinforcement training.
