Donations Requested for Sweet Ivy

Ivy is a beautiful two-year-old Ruby Cavalier who was given to Cavalier Rescue USA by her breeder. Ivy loves being with other dogs, exploring the back yard, playing with toys, and sleeping in her favorite spot on the couch. She is a bit timid around people, but her trust has improved a lot in just a few weeks and we expect that this will continue. She’s such a sweet, young pup!

Unfortunately, as soon as she arrived at her foster home, it was clear that something was wrong with her rear legs. When Ivy stands and walks, her rear legs are bowed outward, and she crouches towards the ground.

During her initial visit with the veterinarian, Ivy was diagnosed with luxating patellas. Luxating patellas are graded from 1 (least severe) to 4 (most severe). Both of Ivy’s patellas are a grade 3, and her left leg is a severe grade 3. This means that both of her patellas are out of place most of the time.

Ivy needs two surgeries about two months apart as each knee requires a separate procedure. These surgeries will improve her mobility and prevent further complications as she ages. Without surgery, she will get increasing lame and be in debilitating pain.

After each surgery, Ivy’s movement will be restricted as she recuperates, and she will need physical therapy to help her regain her strength and mobility. The cost of Ivy’s surgeries and veterinary care is estimated to be close to $6ooo. Please consider donating to help this sweet girl.

Ivy has a few difficult months ahead, but these surgeries will improve her quality of life significantly and help her be the active and playful dog she wants to be.

Ivy is being fostered in Indiana. Please note that we are only looking for donations now and that this pup won’t be available for adoption for several months due to the required recuperation time. To learn more about patellar luxation, please see https://cavalierhealth.org/patellas.htm
