Maybell in Cotati, CA
This big, gorgeous Black & Tan girl is Maybell. She’s a tall girl that currently weighs 33 pounds. We aren’t body shaming, but Maybell could stand to lose about 5 pounds! Measured amounts of kibble, limited treats and lots of walks will help achieve her perfect weight. Maybell was shaved down before she came into rescue but has a glossy, healthy coat. She came into rescue when her loving owner’s health issues meant she could no longer care for her.
Maybell is heart clear and overall a healthy girl that was born 5/1/2018. She even has nice clean teeth! She was scratching a lot but didn’t have fleas so the vet gave her a cytopoint shot in case of allergies as well as updating her vaccines.
Maybell is house trained and will let you know when she needs to go out. She does have some anxiety at first and is startled when you approach her quickly. Her vet records told us that she is extra anxious at the vet and they have used a muzzle during vet visits. She loves to snuggle and gives hugs, cuddling her head on your chest and getting on your lap.
She will protect and take toys and treats from other dogs but is fine with them otherwise. She loves to chase flying insects! Maybell loves walks but is strong and pulls. She sometimes barks at other dogs but is friendly. She will jump up on you so too so some training will be needed to for her to be a wonderful companion.
Maybell loves to be in her crate – it’s her safe space. She was in there a lot when she first arrived in her foster home but she will bark in the crate if left alone in the room. She does well sleeping overnight in it in the family bedroom. She will let you know if she needs to get out to go potty by moving around quite a bit.
Maybell lived with a cat in her former home and will be happy with other dogs or as an only dog in her new home, getting all of the attention! Maybell needs a dog experienced family with a fenced yard. Since she jumps and is strong we recommend an active family with older children (if there are children).
If you can give this sweetheart the home of her dreams and live within a reasonable driving distance from her foster home please email your interest to our Northern California Coordinator, Sarah Knudsen at sayrahk@gmail.com and submit an application if you haven’t already.
