Teddy in Boston, MA
Teddy is an enthusiastic four-year-old male Blenheim with lots of love and affection to give to a new home. Teddy was given to rescue due to a lifestyle change for his previous owners, and he has warmed up to his foster family very quickly.
He will take a little time to come out of his shell, but will surely become fast friends with his new family. Teddy enjoys daily walks, play times, long naps, and plenty of time with his person.
Toys are one of Teddy’s favorite things. He is always ready to play with stuffed animals, balls and tug ropes. He has also enjoyed playing with his foster family’s Cavalier. While Teddy is okay with a small dog, another dog is not necessary in his new home.
Teddy has enjoyed a nightly play routine. His new family should enjoy engaging him with plenty of toys. Teddy also really loves the beach and swimming in the ocean, and will happily dive in to retrieve his ball.
Teddy would do best in a calm home without children. Teddy can be reactive to larger dogs and new people coming into the home, and struggles to calm himself in these scenarios. Teddy’s ideal home will not include regular comings and goings of new people. He is currently working on these reactions, but his future family must be willing to work with a trainer to help Teddy cope with new dogs and people. Teddy needs a patient owner who will be committed to helping him feel less anxious with his triggers.
Teddy has proven to be extremely well potty-trained, and has never had an accident. He is able to go on his own in the yard or on a leash. A fenced yard, while a bonus, is not required.
Teddy is working on crate training, and can now successfully sleep through the night in his covered crate. Teddy can be left in a secure location in the home while his foster family is out. When left or crated he will bark, but has learned to eventually settle.
Teddy is in good health. He is heart clear, and up-to-date on immunizations and preventatives. One knee has a grade 2/4 luxating patella, but no action is needed at this time.
Teddy enjoys his twice daily walks and ample toy time, which have both been helpful in his weight loss journey. The vet has recommended Teddy lose another ten pounds. His future family must be committed to his weight loss by keeping him active and on an established diet. (Teddy eats two meals a day at specified times.)
