Peaches in Tulsa, OK

My name is Peaches! I am a 3-year-old female who came to rescue in January 2025 from a breeder. I wish I could explain what my former life was, because I came a bit traumatized. I’m scared of anything that moves toward me, stands above me, or makes loud noises, etc. That includes people, vacuums, storms, or any change of environment. I am happy to just sit on the couch all day. It’s my safe place to sleep, eat or just be calm until something changes. If I’m unsure, I will frantically run and find a safer place.

Deep inside I am a beautiful and sweet spirited little girl despite all of my background. It’s been baby steps, but I have made a lot of progress with my loving fosters. Since I came here, I have been to the vet. I got spayed, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea medicines. I even got a bath, and my teeth cleaned that are now pearly white. The doctor said I am a very healthy girl !

My foster mom has watched me slowly come out of my shell. But it has taken me many months of her patient love, care, touch, and approach to my comfort zone. I really like my other foster Cavaliers and can tolerate bigger dogs after a few days warmup period. Once I feel safe, I will run out in the back yard with the other pups. I get very happy and love to play, chase, sniff, and roll in the grass. Wooohoo! However, I will run  back inside if a stranger walks out or they aren’t sitting. I don’t like people standing over me.

I like to quietly sneak up on my mom at her desk for her petting, rubs, and head scratches while she is sitting. If she is standing, or surprises me coming around a corner, I turn and run to my safe place.

I am leery of little children, men, or new unfamiliar places. I do like to go to the groomer and get a warm, soothing bath, but I just don’t like to be picked up, held, or put in the car. Once there, i calm down, enjoy the quiet ride, sit still, until we arrive back home in the garage. Mom opens her doors, and when I feel it’s safe, I jump out and head for the safe couch!

I am a good eater and like to chew on soft toys. When I get adventurous and find a shoe or shirt of my foster Mom’s, I like to put it in my safe place to sleep with. I like to sit next to my mom when she comes to my couch. I move next to her and I let her brush me, pet me, and massage me. I am house trained and will go out when she opens the back door, but only if and when I want to. Morning and evening are my preferred outside times.

I have my own bed that is in Mom’s room where I sleep at night. I realize that I have some issues, but my foster mom is confident that there is the perfect person and home environment to love me. Is that you? I really would like a loving, patient person to adopt me. A kind and gentle soul who is at home a lot, maybe has another small dog I can be a friend to, but no small children. Mom says a fenced back yard is required.

If you think you could be my next safe home, please fill out an application to adopt me if you haven’t already and contact Janis Stauffer at okstauffer@aol.com. Thank you!
