Gemma in Fort Collins, CO
Meet Gemma! This cute little tricolor girl came into foster care when her former owner could no longer take care of her due to the owner’s health issues. At 10-years-young, Gemma is the ultimate companion dog. Beware that if you sit on the couch, a chair, the floor, you will quickly find a petite Gemma in your lap. Gemma LOVES to cuddle, especially with her foster mom, often asking for pets from her foster family. She moves around like dog half her age.
Although Gemma is very small in stature, she currently exceeds her ideal weight. Her foster family has her on a weight management diet, which Gemma eats readily. Gemma loves to go for walks. Her current weight is 17.3 pounds, but ideally, Gemma should weigh around 14 lbs. She has lost some weight while in foster care, but her forever home will need to watch her food intake and take her on walks to help continue with the weight loss.
While in foster care, Gemma had a dental where her remaining few teeth were extracted, but this doesn’t slow her down. She eats softened kibble just fine. Gemma is heartworm free, microchipped and up-to-date on her vaccines. Also while in foster care, Gemma had a lump removed on her hind leg. Thankfully, the mass was just a fatty lipoma with some fibrous collagen components. She may have diminished hearing. Gemma was recently diagnosed with Stage B2 Mitral Valve Disease and is now on pimobendan to help her thrive.
And thrive she does! Gemma gets along great with her foster home’s Cavalier but would also do well as an only dog. If you are willing to give Gemma lots of cuddles and loving, she will be happy as a clam.
Gemma is house trained but does need to go out to go potty on a regular basis.
Gemma would do best in a home where her people are home much of the day. If you are happy to provide endless loving to this sweetheart of a dog, please complete an online application and notify Carolyn at CarolynCKCS@comcast.net of your interest.
