Dakota in Castro Valley, CA
Dakota is a very handsome Cavalier with an unusual black and tan/merle coat. He came into rescue as a breeder release.
Dakota is estimated to be two years old. He is a solid, healthy nineteen pound boy. He has recently been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and is heart healthy. A dental was not needed, as he has healthy gums and clean teeth.
Dakota is very athletic and energetic. He enjoys playing with squeaky toys, but fetching a ball or frisbee has become Dakota’s favorite activity. He is very smart and confident, and has a more dominant personality.
Dakota has been with other Cavaliers in his foster home and while he gets along with them, he is a bit of a bully when it comes to toys.
Dakota will thrive on being the center of attention and getting all the love and affection he can handle.
Dakota is very affectionate and enjoys attention from his favorite humans. He can’t seem to get enough pets or belly rubs, and loves to be on your lap or laying next to you. He will push his face against yours giving sweet hugs and gentle kisses.
Dakota does have a tendency to startle with unfamiliar loud sounds or unfamiliar people, but reassuring him has helped him relax. He will do best with a canine companion to help build his confidence & teach him the ropes of being a house dog!
Dakota has been great in the car using a seat belt tether or crate. He’s good on a leash and loves walks. Dakota is crate-trained and sleeps quietly throughout the night in a bedroom crate next to his foster Mom, but he would love big bed privileges!
Dakota also does well being crated for short periods of time while running errands. Being an indoor pet has been an unfamiliar lifestyle for this little guy, but like a true Cavalier he adjusted quickly to the comforts of being a house dog.
Dakota is still learning indoor manners, and had a tendency to mark inside with other male dogs in his foster home, but using a male wrap indoors helped. His recent neuter will also help decrease indoor marking over time. Dakota has been reliable when taken out often throughout the day. He will need help until he becomes familiar with his new home and establishes a potty routine.
